So now instead of Pouliot and Eberle ($10 mil cap) We have Strome and JJ plus Pou's buyout (5.27 mil cap hit). We are unquestionably a better team with lots of room to add talent at the deadline for a cup run. Go Chia!
Well he doesn't really replace Ebs points.

But JJ checks off a lot of boxes, I love this signing.

Let me tell you, what a complete gong show mess that place was. The firing of Gallant, moving Tim Rowe behind the bench and moving Dave Tallon to another role destroyed that room. Tim Rowe and his analytic idiots destroyed anything they had going the previous year. When GG was fired, Barkov AND Huberdeau were both long term injuries, the team was almost .500 hockey.

In Jussi's situation he was moved up and down the line up, they relied on him in a checking role more than offensive one. He only started to play better when there was stability on his line and Barkov came back.

Solid player. I like this signing. If given the right minutes easily return to his former point totals. Last year was definitely an anomaly.
Even without knowing much about his situation last year, I have to imagine that given his offensive numbers before last year, if Maroon falters this year the Jokinen wouldn't look out of place next to McDavid.

This looks more balanced then what I posted, nice work.

yep.

It really gives the Oilers some options to put Drai at center too. Strome can move to wing for a spell.

Subject to players like Leon flipping between RW and C of course.

I'm not entirely sure how they'll elect to deploy RNH this season, but I do like that we seem to have potentially 5 C's for our top 9 (McD,Drai,RNH,Strome,Jokinen).
I like those lines. I think if RNH stays, he cant be our 3rd line center. I would like to see him with McDavid.

Looks pretty good but that second line still needs work. I would really prefer Chia brought in a vet rw to make Pulju earn his spot. Also I personally would let Drai center the 2nd line and try and pump RNH's offense on McDavid's wing.

If he returns to form and plays on the lw with the top 2 lines, could outscore their 6.25M vet

The only problem I would have with that is expecting Puljujarvi to play a high end cycle game so soon, as that is what Nuge and Lucic will have to play to be successful, and we saw last year they can.

I would also like RNH to get a look as a winger this season, just to see what he can do with a bit more freedom out there. I also like Lucic-Draisaitl WAY better as a combo than Lucic-RNH. I'd be worried about the 2nd line not accomplishing much again this season if RNH is the one in the middle.

For sure.

Great signing by Chia. I'm not sold on a number of his moves, but he sure does seem to be good at the small value moves.

JJ primarily plays the wing positions but he does sometimes takes draws. I wouldn't call him a center. Definitely versatile.

I think we might see a sort of Letestu/Drai for McDavid situation where Jokinen takes the draws for the 3rd line but Strome plays center positionally.

Nice job, Speedy.

JJ is gonna have to fight Drake for #36.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jokinen-RNH-Pulju with JJ taking most of the draws.

Maroon-McDavid-Strome
Lucic-Drai-Slep
JJ-RNH-Pulju
Drake-Letestu-Kassian

Dat depth.

Probably. But those two also take up two spots in the top 9 whereas Eberle takes up one. A more accurate way to look at it would be to look at the roster positions.

Jokinen>Pou
Eberle>Strome

This deal doesn't have anything to do with Eberle or replacing his production imo. This is all about finding an upgrade on Pouliot who brings a bit more to the table and for less money.

Indeed, not a center, but an excellent faceoff man.

Wanted him all along.
Means yamamoto can dominate this year in Spokane and Jesse has a finish mentor.
Still a very useful player.

Wow 1.1million for a guy who had 60 points 2 seasons ago. Impressive.

This may seem an odd thing to say, but I see this signing as another indication that Oilers have finally arrived. There is a tier of experienced, versatile and dependable slightly-better-than-journeymen players that seem to move around the top teams (or at least the most desirable teams) every couple of years. They are rarely any team's primary target on free agent day, but they always seem to be those one or two guys that everyone wants to put their team over the top. They are the secondary scorers and role players that are sort of unremarkable on their own but that can make a good team great. But the Oil never seem to attract them - we always get the poor man's version of one, or someone who we hope might muddle through as a reasonable facsimile. I recognize that he was just bought out and that Jokinen is no elite world-beater, but he fits this general profile to a tee. IMO it's a sign that the Oilers' window is opening up.

Very happy with this signing!

Good mock lineup. There are a lot of options. Hopefully enough options for everyone to find a good fit.

That makes a lot of sense actually, since Chia said they see Strome as a center, so they bring in a cheap lw vet that can help defensively and win draws, while chipping in offensively
