John Tavares. Is it possible?

If John tavares dont sign in New York during this year. Is it possible to montreal for acquire him?

We know that the contract of pleky will be to the end . same as markov if he sign... We could have a lot of money to give him.. And we know that Tavares is a good friend to Weber, Price and cie.

We know that he doesnt like the ice rink in New York...

In my opinion, we can think about it and believe he will come here

If Tavares doesn't want to stay with the Islanders, then I think it all depends on where we would sign a extension. Islanders lose control and would have to negotiate with whatever team Tavares wants to play for. Think How the Shattenkirk situation played out

So yeah, I do think it's a possibility and having Weber, Price and cap room is a great situation for the Habs if Tavares wants to play in Montreal

Tavares is definitely a dream. This could play out very similarly to the Stamkos situation. The fact the Islanders don't have a home rink situation worked out can hurt their chances of extending him. They're on their way out of Brooklyn Center and no foreseeable plan in place.

One can hope the Islanders crap the bed this year so a trade can be made at the deadline. Then Habs can ship Pacioretty ++ for Tavares.

If JT ever makes it to the Habs roster, it would fix the whole forward group.

Patches Tavares Gally
Drouin Chucky Lehkonen
Byron Danault Shaw
DLR McCarron Hudon

I could live with those lines next year.

It's possible if he goes to FA, he was hanging out with Weber the other day so maybe he could be swayed by him to sign here.

With that being said, I'd say there's a 99% chance he re-signs with New York

I don't see any player who would be a better fit for this team.

That said, if Toronto or Edmonton offer him something, he might head in that direction before than signing in Montreal.

Never going to happen.

Don't have the assets to trade for him, and he won't come here in FA.

Hes either going to sign in NY, or he's going to go to another team that has atleast 1 more great Center. There will be no pressure on him this way, and it will replicate the Pittsburgh model which seems to be working out pretty good.

1-2 of Matthews-Tavares looks pretty appealing?

Much nicer than Tavares-Danault.

We'd be lucky if he doesn't sign with the Leafs. He's a Toronto boy.

No room to give him his 11-12M with a 10.5M Price and 8M Weber.

It's definitely annoying to hear it all the time.

I think Toronto is a much more appealing destination than Montreal, not the case 2-3 years ago. The only thing that could potentially draw Tavares is Price & Weber.

Except it would be Tavares-Galchenyuk.

If Management intends to really keep Galchenyuk at wing we have too many wingers.

They might be patient but he'll be C during the year IMO.

There is room to fit Tavares in. We could of signed Radulov to a $7M deal? What's an extra $3.5M? Plus we are likely trading Galchenyuk, + so that's makes another $4.9M in space. When you can acquire a center like Tavares. You make it work!

ok but even as stupid as snow is , it's gonna take a lot more than Galchenyuk + to get JT

He's also a good friend of PK. Nashville has the cap space and the assets.

Pipe dream.

You're very short-sighted and Montreal does have the assets to trade for a Tavares who has made it clear he won't play in New York with the Islanders anymore, if that's the situation.

It wouldn't take Pacioretty, Galchenyuk and 2 1st rounders to get Tavares under those circumstances.

I'd trade one of the two, depending on who gets the deal done and flip our first rounders for the next three years for two of the Isles' 2nd rounders in those years, the 2nd and the third years. In the next three years, we'd have at least 2 second rounders to make up for not having one late first rounder.

Depending on how we handle the re-sign of Tavares, it still becomes possible to flip Gallagher + for RNH, IMHO and we could have a C line of Tavares-RNH-Danault-Mitchell. Tavares enables you to play a veteran with a youngster on the wings and spread more talent for your second line.

Assuming Galchenyuk was the centrepiece of the trade and we'd also lost Gallagher for RNH:

Pacioretty - Tavares - Lehkonen
Drouin - RNH - Byron (Spped, speed, speed)
Hudon/Hemsky - Danault - Shaw
Martinsen - Mitchell - McCarron

Contracts like Pacioretty, Drouin, Lehkonen, Byron, Hudon/Hemsky, Danault, Mitchell, McCarron and Martinsen become essential with Price, Tavares, Weber, RNH, Petry and Alzner eating up around 45M of the Cap. 55M with Drouin and Pacioretty. That's 20M left over for Shaw (4M, roughly) 8 forwards, 5 Ds and a back-up G!

68M with all the forwards and the back-up G leaves 7M for 5 D. 1,1M for Benn, 2,1M for Schlemko leaves 3.8M for three more, 2,8M, maybe 3M if we go short on the injury reserve with 800K earmarked for that.

Obviously, Plekanec isn't re-signed after his season and Montreal, in the future, needs to be extremely creative with the supporting cast of players on D and for the third and fourth lines.

Players like Shaw become overpaid for their role and re-signing Pacioretty is practically impossible going forward. Montreal, to keep talent, will need to start jumping past bridge contracts and risk with young talent on long term, lower Cap hit contracts...

Doable, though.
