Trade Rumors and Proposals Thread: Bigfoot/Jagr Sighting in Edmonton?

Not saying that this is credible and I find it odd that no one else would've said anything as Jagr is a very recognizable face but just for ****s and giggles.

Would have been more interesting if he tweeted "I spoke to Colton Parayko and he told me he's being traded to Edmonton."

It's entirely possible SwiftTortoise meant both, hence why s/he was so vague.

Very likely seeing as how they always get what we are going after... They still need some depth on the right wing as well. My guess is that they will go after Jagr, and then fall back on Iginla if they fail.

Does anyone know how much cap space they have available?

$9.8m with Bennett, Lazar and Ferland to re-up.

They also have Brouwer, Frolik and Versteeg at RW so its unlikely they'd be in the mix for Jagr or Iginla.

There's nothing to suggest the Oilers are going after Jagr though is there?

We were after a JJ, and we got him

I'd love Jagr, but I doubt it's happening. Would be very cool though.

I wonder if Drew Stafford doesn't make a bit more sense in that he'd likely be more cost appropriate. Could probably get him at the same type of 1m/1y deal that we signed Jokinen for. My understanding is he was pretty decent when he got to Boston.

Winnik, Hudler and Cullen are 3 decent vet forwards who can all play that role of good bottom 6 utility forwards. Cullen is 40 which probably puts him on the cautionary side but all 3 of those would be solid, cheap depth... if say the Oilers wanted to move out another bigger contract.

Winnik would be a nice add actually. Big guy who can either play center or wing. Could have a shut down like of jokinen winnik kassian and out strome in the top 6. Or even winnik strome kass and have jokinen in top 6. So many oprions with our team

Adding another forward takes him away from one of Khaira, Caggiula, Slepyshev
Obviously the Oilers will have injured forwards.
Caggiula and Slepyshev earned full time minutes in my eyes. Khaira is close. Seems like another forward may be detrimental to their development.

But injuries happen.

Maroon-McDavid-Hopkins
Lucic-Drai-Strome
Slepy-Drake-Jagr
Jokinen-Letesnu-Kassian
Pacman

Juju gets to work on his game in the minors.

Puljujarvi gets another development year. If he somehow explodes offensively we can move him into the top six while trading Maroon (who will probably become too expensive) before the trade deadline.

McDavid will inflate Hopkins' trade value so that we get a legit return for him.

That 2nd line will produce while wearing the opposition down now that Lucic is emotionally invested in the team having gone to war in the playoffs as an Oiler.

Jagr mentors Slepy and Drake while eating up Letesnu's points on the PP... making Letesnu a cheap re-sign.

Jokinen does what he's paid to do, be a solid 4th liner, PK and shootout specialist.

The kids will do just fine with big J.

You're missing the likely Jokinen an Puljujarvi connection. No doubt that was a big part of his decision to come here.

Whether or not that holds up after training camp or whether or not that's fair is irrelevant.
I want Jagr. Badly. Would be amazing for so many reasons. However, I don't want to stunt a long term forward's potential for Jagr.

Torn situation. Which sucks. Finally have some forward depth. Not incredible depth players, but adequate NHLers

Slepyshev Pakarinen

I don't think it's a stretch to peg that third line for 30-40 points each and the fourth line around 20-30. Really, the only two not to have met those numbers before are Pulju and Caggiula, and that's because they've never had the opportunity. If they don't or can't, well, that's what depth is for.

Ideally we'd add in an Iginla or Stafford at 3RW to really push the kids, but that might not be necessary. We'll hopefully know by the end of training camp at latest so alternatives can be explored.

This may as well be our closest chance for a cup push seeing as how McDavid's contract comes in next season. If we can get Jagr for the right place I would rather do that. Pool party is still young and if he is not ready, another year in the AHL should be fine. We finally have a roster where we don't need to rush our prospects, so there is no hurry for bringing this guy to the big league.

I thought Chia said he might sign a player and maybe a trade , so you would think a trade would be the only thing left he might do in the summer .

I definitely agree that getting Jokinen has sealed Puljujarvi's spot on the main roster. Chiarelli thinks it is time for Puljujarvi to step up, and if we're following the development path we had with Drai, now is the time for JP to graduate permanently. JP and Drai's situations are extremely similar so far.

And if JP hits near his potential, he'll be better than what Jagr is today.

There is of course the marketing aspect, in that it would just be awesome to have Jagr, but Chiarelli can't make decisions based on that now. We're already well marketed too, considering we have McDavid and the team is winning games.

I also doubt Jagr signs at a super cheap rate. He's won the cup already. He'd be padding his retirement at this point, and will want to be paid a little extra because of who he is.

Not that I'm against getting Jagr. It could be awesome. I just don't think it's on our radar. And, I don't think we're on Jagr's radar

I don't mean to fuel the speculation or anything but my coworkers told me that the traveling jagr's were spotted at the casino I work at yesterday.
