Mason Merchament. What's his upside?

A career AHLer? He didn't look bad in the rookie tournament.

I would say AHL but he's big and tough so possible make it onto a 4th line somewhere. Maybe like a Martin type?
Just my thoughts on him.

Man that was tough to watch. Classic case of letting a guy up off the mat. Middleton had the guy just barely holding on then let up when the guy seemed defenseless, he then threw a desperation haymaker that completely lands. This could really rattle Middleton's tough side of his game, which is pretty important to his chances of making it.

Looks like Brett Findlay is headed to Calgary Flames camp.

Best of luck to that guy. I liked him and hope he can catch on in Stockton.

I'm guessing with the lack of Korshkov updates that he hasn't been great so far ?

Do you mean Korostolev or Korshkov?

If you mean Korostolev...for a guy that's looking to get a contract in the AHL, he didn't look overly impressive in the rookie camp.

He's got the skill, but no real compete when it mattered.

If you mean Korshkov, I haven't heard anything.

Korostelev was pretty good in rookie camp and the tournament. Had more than a few good chances and great dekes. I did not hear about him making defensive mistakes either, and he's worked on his defensive game a lot. He's not amazing right now, but a ton of guys have worked on their defensive game as soon as they got to the Marlies (Kapanen and Johnsson for example were thrusted into the role and did well despite being seen as more one-dimensional players before that).

Won't rattle him at all. He was rag-dolling Pezzetta and clearly won the fight. He knows he is at risk of injury, but as long as he knows he's effective with his fighting game, he's going to use it.

Middleton is actually not as much of a fighter as you would think. He's smart and only does it when necessary. Like his PIM totals have been 48 last year, 66 the year before, and 58 his rookie year. I would bet he had more roughing calls from scrumbing with people than fights. He's not going to stop that until the day he's not a hockey player.

1 goal 2 assists from 9 games is the last update I've seen Walshy

Apparently the teams had a pretty brutal start to the season

Hey, that's your opinion and you're welcome to that, but I'll respectfully disagree.

I just don't think he did enough to warrant a contract. If he wants to split time between the Marlies & Solar Bears, then sure, why not.

The other reason is, who do you want to devote your time and energy into developing; You've already got wingers like Moore, Grundstrum (although won't be with Marlies), Kapanen (potentially), Bracco, Dzierkals, Piccinich, Rychel (not a given), Andreas Johnsson and then guys with guaranteed AHL deals like Clune, Greening, Pospisil.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that for him to get a contract, he has to be heads above what he showed in the tournament. He needs to make an impact.

Not arguing an ELC, will argue AHL deal. Definitely worth that, especially when they handed them out to the likes of Max Novak and Jean Dupuy (I could add defensemen I would question as well). I would not want either of them to near the Marlies if they had any say in it.

Will also add that Greening is on a SPC, not an AHL deal.

agree with this, if we can get a guy with Korostelev's upside on an AHL contract we can find space. Well worth it on the 1/100 chance he works out - if nothing else it's going to make watching Marlies games more fun when we tune in to watch Liljegren/Kapanen/Bracco etc

Ouff hopefully he picks it up. He was looking really good before breaking his leg, maybe he's not 100% still or it's affecting him.

I think both Novak and Dupuy are likely in the ECHL for a majority of the year.

So with all of the other contracts handed out, does he get an AHL deal? Sure, if he's willing to spend that time in the ECHL too.

Korshkov seems to be playing 2nd line and is not on the PP. Although, I don't really know what kind of minutes he's getting and if he's on the 2nd PP unit.

He 9th on his team in scoring. Interesting enough, the top 3 scorers on his team are all former Leafs. Kronwall, Kontiola, and Kozun. They also have Max Talbot.

I have a free DAZN subscription for the month and they have a bunch of KHL games, live and replays, but I have yet to see his team featured.

His team plays tomorrow vs one of the worst teams in the league.

He just turned 21 and is coming off of a major injury so I think patience with him is key.

What a great time to be a Leaf fan. In the past, we would be hanging all our hopes on guys like him. Now we can just let them develop and not worry about it so much.

BTW, the FlashScore app covers the KHL and has full line-ups as well as lines. It's great for ALL hockey leagues.

Engvall got a goal and an assist in his first game with HV71.

Ryan O'Connell has no points and is EVEN though his first two games in the BCHL.

Not the start we wanted from O'Connell. It's 2 games, but he also looked out of place at development camp. Hopefully he picks it up.
