Don't know what the hell Sakic is doing. You'd think he might have missed his prime trading window, since teams have blown loads on UFAs while Duchene begins to resemble a rental once the season starts. Is it all a tactic for Colorado to re-sign him cheaply? Really don't know.

It's like Sakic didn't consider that teams looking to trade for a C can trade for any C, and there are others out there. As far as the Habs, I wouldn't expect to be able to trade for a top-tier center, but there are solid 2nd-line Cs. NJ has Henrique, Detroit has Nielson, Edmonton has RNH, NYI has Brock Nelson, maybe even take a shot at H. Sedin.

I like Henrique.

Jersey will be in a position to trade a centre sooner or later, they are loaded with young/prospect centers (Zacha, Hischier, McLeod, Quenneville).

Article here on possible landing spots for Duchene. I won't be surprised if he ends up at wing, wherever he goes and I would much rather have Drouin there then him.

If Habs could land Duschene he would be the best forward on the club.

Stealing Duchene would be a dream. I think that ship sailed with Sergachev though. I think Bergevin tried, but Sakics demands were unreasonable.

I think Giroux is the most likely guy. I think he can be had for not much at all. If Philly would be willing to retain even just 1 million a year, I'd have interest.

Talk about completely ruining this situation up. He handled it very poorly from the beginning, he tried to get a huge return ( which is normal ) however with the season he had + the fact that he wants out pretty much dropped his value. Now he has a player that pretty much doesn't want to be there anymore and GM's knowing that he ****ed up and are no longer willing to give up a huge return for him.

That's why going after RNH might make more sense

He would cost cheaper and his production would IMO be more or less the same

RNH sucks at face offs too though. Giroux is definitely the better all around player and fit.

I think Giroux age and cap hit is what makes him available for cheap.

I think Giroux would be a good fit as well. However, the Flyers are not trading him for cheap unless he starts this year slow again. Lets see if he is past his hernia surgery by 100% now.

Giroux trade roomers are only going to pickup steam if you ask me. Flyers are deep up the middle too.

That contract given to Slavin

How the *** do you give that much money for that many years to a 4th round draft pick having one good season.

Could be. Could also become a headache for many years to come.

I mean i don't dislike Slavin he's rock solid for now but he is far from a proven player. I understand securing generational talents before they become proven but if anyone here try to convince me with a straight face that Slavin is a generational talent that can't fail after one good season i don't know what to say honestly.

RNH is not the best option, but he should be a reasonably priced one. Personally I take him over an insanely overrated and overpriced Duchene.

I'm not saying that Duchene may not have a minor renaissance after leaving the Avs, but even then he's hardly the superstar so many here seem to believe.

Would love Giroux if we keep Galchenyuk and Drouin. Not sure why Philly trades him, but Drouin-Giroux-Galchenyuk would be so much fun to watch.

How many big, smart, mobile defenders that have accomplished what Slavin has in his 1st 2 seasons at age 21 and 22 suddenly fall off a cliff? Why does it matter where he was drafted 5 years ago?

Were paying Petry more than Slavin is getting paid.

Just let that sink in.

Comparing UFA apples to RFA oranges isn't the best way to look at things.

Petry's contract is not very good contrary to popular belief.
