That was far from being the most questionnable statement in your post.
... Actually, it was pretty much the only non-questionnable statement.

Easier said than done. Habs and Leafs are not in the same position. We have a 5 year window to win. They are just starting to touch their window to win now. They can afford some risks. Habs can't

Then, make the team better. We are a better team with the current replacements on D (Alzner & Schlemko) + Markov than without him.

I'm talking about next year, I love the guy, but he's turning 39 and he should accept a one year deal.

Markov is better than Streit right now, but we need to think about next year's cap too. That's huge.

He's referring to Robidas island, the imaginary island where Lupul also went. I doubt the Habs would do that to a guy like Markov who's almost a legend for the team. The team cares too much about their prestige and image/class inside the league to resort to that tactic.

100% Agreed. He has to realize that we want to give him the 2 year deal but the CBA (retirement issue) is the reason why we can't do it. Habs are also in a critical path in our chance to win a cup too.

They should have just given him the $3.5m per year that he wanted when he originally left.

The fact that Markov keeps being overused during the regular season is an indictment in our defensive depth. Because the fact is, regardless of his flaws, 'old' Markov was at worst our third worst defenseman last year, one of the few puck movers back there who could at least play some defense.

I think the NHL is going to start cracking down on this. Curious to see how the Hossa "skin infection" issue plays out for the Blackhawks as they are under investigation by the NHL. Lets see if the Leafs get away with it with Lupul for 2 years in a row

Also, I think we all agree both Markov and the team respect each other. The issue with the 2nd year is you can't control what will happen to Markov's body and a lot can change in 12 months! Inventing an "injury" is not that easy to work around. Bergevin wants to steer clear of this and he should

Streit had a pretty damn good long NHL career considering he became a NHLer at the age of 27. Too bad he hit the regression wall at the age of 37/38...same age Markov is now.

Anything that comes from Marc De Foy is to be disregarded immediately.

That being said, if Bergevin is still saving the coins with 9 ****ing millions under the salary cap and a full lineup, it's bordering mental illness.

The only position where I'd use Streit right now is as a #7 D.

Not really. It's the exact amount of overreaction we usually get.

Really hoping this rumour is false and dies a quick death. Unless Streit comes with a time-machine it's a dumb move.
