It's worse than last year. And it wasn't exactly great to begin with.

His point is wrong as we couldn't protect Emelin over Shaw.

Why haven't we signed Markov? Maybe because he's out to lunch with his demands?

Hey I like Drouin just as much as everyone else but he's not this team's savior. We still have no LD, no #1C and we lost Radulov. One step forward, three steps back.
It changes everything because protecting Emelin over Shaw was not an option.

Somehow, I doubt it -- Bergevin is a defense-first type of GM, he always said you never have enough D. I wish he would have said "quality D", instead.

Courting Streit, if true, is highly questionable. Begs the same question all the time -- what's the game plan?
Ride Carey Price until you break his back.

I don't understand how you can say that it's solid when you're even acknowledging that they're missing a top pairing D to play with Weber.

I doubt he gets to play with Weber if he's signed...

How is it worse than last year? If Markov's back, we are considerably better IMO.

Alzner>Emelin
Benn>Pateryn
Schlemko>Beau

And I'm not even including Jerabek who could surprise, Morrow, Davidson...

I really hope this is not true.

It practically mean that Markov won't be back which is really bad.
Streit is done. It would be great for a #7D-#8D but the Habs are already full there with Morrow, Jerabek, Davidson...

I mean, are we suggesting that $4.1 million Emelin should have been protected in the expansion draft?

As several others have pointed out, it wasn't a choice between Shaw and Emelin. If you protect Emelin you have to un-protect 3 forwards, so congratulations on losing one of Shaw, Danault or Byron. Do we think soon-to-be-UFA and massively overpaid Emelin is more important to the future of the team than Danault?

Lots of things about MB you can realistically whine and complain about; losing Emelin to Vegas is not one of them.

You're in a thread about Streit and you ignore to add him to your lineup? Would be futile for MB to sign Streit and Markov. Actually that would make sense as far as MB is concerned.

i am one of the believers that davidson will have a breakout year. 2 years ago, with edm, he looked very promising, and last year was derailed with injury, he has the physique to be a dominant young dmen, and i believe he will progress and become a reliable regular

Habs could do like the Sharks and overpay on a 1 year deal and have a handshake agreement for next year at a small salary like they did with Thornton.

You do this if you don't have a plan on the table for a 1C

It's only a rumor at this point.

And if he indeed is signed he will be depth IMO.

By breakout year, what do you mean....becoming an everyday starter, Top 4 candidate, etc...?

He just won a Cup. To me it would make more sense to go back home to Switzerland and play two years there.

It is worse IF Markov isn't back..wich for now he still isn't under contract with the Habs.

I think that's what everyone is saying...
