Yeah... of our D prospects I am most intrigued by Bear, but I don't know a lot about him. Are you expecting him to compete for a spot as early as this or next year? Why do you think it would be 2-3 years out, that would make it his D+4 or D+5 season.

Seems to me Jones is a more likely bet, but Bear has higher potential (bit more boom/bust though). What are others' views?

JP is still a prospect. If you want to assume he's number 1 that's fine, but this should be starting at 2, IMO. Voted Yoshi for #2

Voting for Puljujarvi, this is HFboards which has had a specific criteria for what is and isn't a prospect, don't see a need to re-draw the lines.

If you want to start from #2 that's fine, but I won't support any fan consensus ranking that doesn't have Pulju at #1.

It's always hard to say how fast a Dman will be able to translate his game to the NHL. Dmen can be like voodoo sometimes. For example, who saw Slavin becoming such a great Dman in the NHL so fast at the time he was drafted in the 4th round in 2012. Now he's a legit top-pairing Dman, who just signed a huge contract today; I doubt anyone was saying he had that potential at the time he was drafted -- certainly not many. To bring it back to our prospects, I definitely think Bear has the biggest boom/bust potential of all the listed prospects. But he's so good that I think it's much more likely he is able to play his game at the NHL level. The only time I saw him a bit overwhelmed a bit was during the Memorial Cup. But we can't forget that there were a couple of VERY stacked teams from the OHL in Erie but especially Windsor. That maybe shows me he needs one year in the AHL to learn how to adjust to much stiffer competition. Maybe 2 at most. And I say 2-3 years before we know, because I think if he hasn't been able to come close to breaking into the NHL by then, perhaps I had too much faith in him. But you just never know for sure with prospects. They're all a roll of the dice, so we'll see.

Ok guys I changed the title...this is now a poll for 2nd best prospect behind Pulju.

Disagree. The Oilers prospect pool is deeper than it has been in a very long time.

Okay, the thread has now been changed to 'who is the #2 prospect', as it should've originally been. Pulju is the consensus #1, of course. So this is for #2, just for anyone who missed it.

Yeah, I really think people who think we have a weak pool are REALLY under-rating some of our prospects. I think our prospect pool is at least top 15 in the league -- certainly for Dmen and wingers.

IMO Paigin gets a NHL stint well before Jones or Bear.
All 3 of them will need time to adjust to big changes.

You could start with #1.

Hey, you're free to take over if you want. I just started it cuz nothing else is really happening at the moment and I'm bored so. You're more than welcome to run the next poll and take it from there

I haven't seen Yamamoto play so I can't really compare the players myself.

I certainly hope Yamamoto will be a great prospect, but on paper the difference between him and Jesse is clear. After all, Jesse was playing at a men's league at the age of 16 (e.g. FEL about 0.5 ppg) so it may take a while for Yamamoto to get comfortable in the NHL or even AHL. But you never know, there are positive surprises and nowadays the smaller size isn't such a big problem anymore. But it does take some of the tools away and makes it necessary to compensate with some others.

Bear for me. WHL Dman of the year. Put up a ton of points. Has a great shot. I think hes our best prospect right now but Its close between him, Jones, and Yams.

Wasn't he playing with a broken hand during the Memorial Cup

I like Jonessy and Bearcub over Yammy at this point.

I feel like Yam would need to be to 5 in scoring next season to be tracking properly.

Yeah, think it happened in the final round in the WHL playoffs, so happened before the Memorial Cup. Unsure which game for sure, though.

He was 6th this year... on a brutal team... haha.

4 over-agers and Sam Steel ahead of him.

Broke it in game three of the West Final against Kelowna. Missed the rest of that series (Series went 6 games). Then he returned for the WHL final and Memorial Cup played with a broken hand the whole time.

I voted Bear. I'm curious to see how Yamamoto does in his draft +1 year.
