Zadorov-EJ
Barberio-Barrie
Bigras-Mironov
Siemens

Dunn-Meloche
Lindholm-Warsofsky
Geertsen-Boikov

Probably get 1 more Blues prospect who is right handed making Boikov/Geertsen the 7th D

Let's be real, Warsofsky will be a top-4 defenseman for us and we will all hate him.

Just noticed our old friend John-Michael Liles is currently UFA with no takers. Bummer. Still one of my favorite players to ever wear the Avs uniform.
Oilers should prolly take a run at him with Sekera being out.

That is a precarious left side. It's terrifying as option A. If Zads were to get hurt (or worse, bolt to Russia), we'd be extremely screwed.

Zadorov is unlikely to bolt. He just had a baby and already acknowledging they agreed to a 2 year Bridge Term. The only detail would be salary which is normally $2M-$2.5M, but he is likely asking for closer to $3M.

As for being screwed, how much lower can they go? I agreed LHD is horrifying and there is little to no help in the minors. Even if they improved by nearly 50% from the previous year, they would still be last. Let the kids play and trade Duchene for prospects and picks, next year grab a LHD in the draft and the team will be in much better shape to be competitive by 2019-2020.

I agree with the first sentence, but not so much the 2nd. I would add that Barrie is so-so in moving the puck (he's much better skating with it), and Barberio is a defensive disaster when the other team is in possession of the puck. There's no doubt those two guys can skate, and Barberio does have a nice outlet pass. But those are only useful skills when they are in possession of the puck.

The Avs are going to have to pray that Bigras is ready to step in next to Barrie, or they're going to need another option. That pairing as is will be a big liability for them defensively. They'll be fun to watch in transition offensively though.

Have a good week everybody.
Please Sakic do something this week.
Sign Zadorov
Sign 1 or 2 year Markov
Tell to every GM Duchene will stay with us this year.
Try to trade Colborne and/or Soderberg for a bigger contrect ans pick or prospect.
Soderberg -- Plekanec - 2round 2018 (example).
Other proposition?

Switch Dunk & Lindholm I think. Maybe they have to promise Dunk a shot as the Nacho eater, but after last season I think Lindholm is in the NHL picture and will push Barberio / Bigras / Mironov for minutes until a Duchene trade happens or Bigras establishes himself next to Barrie.

So which defenders do you see having the most chance of making the Avs, but also being relegated to the ECHL if the Avs do get some of the Blues top prospects?
Blues prospects? What am I missing here?

Yeah, they aren't giving a spot to Siemens if they remotely have any other option. I seriously think he might not be back either. And if they send Meloche, who will arguably be their best prospect in the minors this year, to the ECHL then they should just give the Rampage to the Blues right now. I'm not worried they are going to use Warsofsky, the contract is probably what they had to do to get him to sign. But yeah, there could be PTO or waivers or something to get more guys in.

There's not a lot official but basically this: with the 31 NHL teams and only 30 AHL teams this year then the Blues don't have an affiliate. They will send some players to their old team (Chicago) and their new team (San Antonio). The year after this supposedly the Avs will get the expansion AHL team and the Blues will take SA, so the Avs basically have to share SA this year.

Watching Meloche score a goal a game from the blueline could be fun for the folks in Loveland ...but yeah, he should be in the AHL top 4 to start the year and will probably earn a shot at the #3 RD gig in the NHL by season's end.

I still think Duchene is going to be traded this offseason, opening a spot for Greer and filling in the hole at LHD in the top 4. Masochistic of me, I know... but right now the roster is completely staged for a Duchene trade.

My opening night prediction right now is

Ghetto - Mack - Rantanen
Landy - Compher - Yakupov
Greer - Jost - Wilson
Nieto - Soderberg - Comeau
Colborne

Zadorov - EJ
Murray - Barrie
Barberio - Minorov
Lindholm

If they hate Siemens so much, then why did they qualify him?

To keep his rights if he goes to Europe? To bring him back as a leader in the AHL?

Of course those are possibilities, with him being an AHL vet being more likely, but you can't just assume they have no intention of giving him a chance. Hes been a fairly good soldier about it all since he was drafted. The organization if nothing else is loyal to those who have been good soldiers for them. It's not like depth left handed defenders are a weakness either.

The funny thing is, thus far when hes played in the NHL he hasn't stood out in a negative fashion. If there was any time to give him a longer look its now, and I think the organization knows that.

I'm personally hoping they give him the same type of contract that Aggz got.

Greer needs more time than any of these other guys. Bigras, Lindholm, Mironov and Siemens are all 22 or 23 years old and have multiple pro years under their belts. Other than Bigras they are all looked at as bottom pairing guys as well and are not expected to develop much more, if any. Greer has higher expectations than just a bottom 6 forward, but he still needs to develop further in order to reach his ceiling.

We also have a lot more open spots in SA at forward. Depending on STL we might not have the room at D to bump someone down unless we want Boikov and/or Geertsen in the ECHL, which neither should be there.

There's just something about Anton Lindholm's game that I believe will allow him to have a long NHL career.

If for no other reason than he plays a game that coaches just love. Safe, quiet, willing to battle... coaches love that sort of stuff. I'm not convinced that Lindholm will be a middle pairing guy ever (though I could see it in the right situation), but he will be a guy coaches love on a bottom pairing.

I don't think they hate him because they are keeping him around but I don't think they expect much out of him.

I could see him moved in a September trade like we saw when we moved Stefan Elliott for Brandon Gormley. Probably won't yield much though but I could see that.
