Nice signing. I like Copp - useful player on a good contract.

If it's one thing I've come to learn about the Jets and fringe NHL player signings, it's that they never go past two years.

The issue with that: managements don't sign fringe players to term unless they view them as more than fringe players.

Nashville signed Jarnkork to 6 x$2M a couple years back, which is a very unusual contract. Probably the only one like it.

I like Copp. I think he is a valuable two-way bottom 6 player that is starting to show us glimpses of offensive potential. If he can realize that potential we could have a very solid player on our hands. Either way he has shown he can play up the lineup when need be and not look completely out of place. Guys like him are great for the inevitable injuries that creep into the Jets organization.

6 is super uncommon. 4 - not so much. CapFriendly numbers with contracts that are 4 years or longer, $0.5m - $3.5m (I highlighted the 5s and 6s):

For sure. Is he a top line player? No, but he's a useful bottom 6 player that can play up the line-up and contribute while doing it. Good depth piece.

Love it.

Also looking at WPGChief's image - holy **** I had no idea Ryan Ellis signed for so little. What an amazing contract.

True. It's just that the Jets really don't like going past the number 2 (I've highlighted when they did) (this is CapFriendly's list of below $3.5m):

I'm not really making any sort of point here other than Jets do a lot of 1- or 2-year signings, like I'm sure many other teams do. I maybe would have gone 3 or 4 years for $1m AAV for Copp, but that's a big maybe still... EDIT: I say that but I'm sure Copp likes 2-years so he can get paid after that too if he gets better.

I'm hoping Copp stays a Jet for a long time. I honestly wouldn't have minded 3 or 4 years but the Jets are one of those teams that don't commit to guys unless they are the "glue" type. Copp is one of those guys who could break out in the purest sense of the word and one season just hit like 40+ points. The odds make it unlikely but he has that potential IMO.

^mostly a player like Copp would hope he will have more value in yr3 & yr4. He is betting on himself. I'm sure the Jets would have gladly signed him to 4 x$1M

I have no problem with this deal. Andrew is a solid 4th line player who can play up if need be.

Nice. Real good value. Chevy sure keeps the second tier of young guys on short good value contracts.

Copp is going to be a good player. As he gets more comfortable with the NHL, you can see his confidence grow. He's a gritty player, good on faceoffs and his shot is getting more lethal.

I think so too. If he breaks out there is a chance the Jets may have to move him even with the talent we have but if that's the case so be it. The return would be good if he does.
