5 Predictions for the 17-18 Season

Lowetide had 5 predictions for the season on ON.

Let's hear yours!

1. McDavid scores 40 goals.

2. Oilers sweep the Flames in the season series again.

3. Auvitu makes the team and is our new PP QB.

4. Ryan Strome scores 20 goals.

5. Puljujarvi plays on McDavids line most of the season. (I hope he changes his number though. 98 is gross)

These aren't predictions, they are guarantees:

1. There will be a fire McLellan thread before Chistmas.
2. There will be a fire Chiarelli thread before Christmas.
3. There will be a "get RNH the hell out of here" thread before November.
4. There will be a "Kris Russell needs to go" thread by December.
5. Many posters here will lament at every opportunity that we didn't get Ilya Kovalchuk or Mike Green to fix the PP that's not actually broken.

4. Slepyshev is traded at the deadline
5. Jokinen and Puljujarvi form one of the best 3rd line duos in the league.

1 - Draisaitl centers his own line most of the season and "only" ends up with about 60 points and people start whining about his contract no matter how misguided it might be.
2 - Strome scores 25 goals and 55 points on McDavid's RW.
3 - Puljujarvi struggles to make the opening night roster, gets sent down to the AHL for a while and the B word starts creeping in to HFOil then he has a strong showing in the AHL, gets called up to the main roster and silences the doubters. In other words, be patient with this kid.
4 - Benning takes a step back and gets healthy scratched several times.
5 - The Oilers struggle to make the playoffs under the weight of raised expectations and with the improvement of teams like Dallas, Calgary and Winnipeg pushing them. Look for L.A. to bounce back as well. The west will be a lot stronger than it was last year so this year will be more of a grind for the Oilers IMO.

If Strome plays on 97's wing all year I will throw a bold prediction that he outscores Eberle!

1- Oilers win the division.
2- McDavid wins the Richard, Art Ross, Lindsay and Hart.
3- Puljarvi starts in the AHL, comes up after 10 or so games and does very well with RNH / Jokinen.
4- Nurse takes a big step in development.
5- Strome quickly becomes the fanbases whipping boy.

1. The team finishes roughly the same in the season. We get more injuries, but several players improve to make up the difference.

2. Puljujarvi becomes top line RW by the end of the season, but starts on the 3rd

3. Lucic adjusts to the team (and vice versa). 60 points with 25 goals.

4. Brossoit takes a step forward. 20 GP, 0.920 save prct

5. Strome struggles, offensively and defensively, but shows some potential.

1. JP starts on the 3rd and becomes a #1 RW

2. Strome is nothing special at 3C. New Edm whipping boy. Should be on thread 5 by Christmas

3. Benning is the most improved dman helping the PP also

4. Drai and Looch will be a thing of beauty

5. RNH has a 58 point season

Notable:

Nurse improves very little and will still have a a large # people on HF saying he will be our best defender the year after

NOT SO BOLD:
- Connor McDavid scores 35 goals.
- Jesse Puljujarvi starts the year in Bakersfield, but eventually finishes strong with the Oil.
- Matt Benning steps up and we see an increase in his role even when Sekera returns.

BOLD:
- Joe Gambardella makes the team forcing Pakarinen out.

REALLY BOLD:
- Klefbom puts up 60 points 22 goals. He gets Norris buzz, but ultimately doesn't get nominated.

-McDavid goes 41-74-115 points to win the Hart, Art Ross and Lindsay again, while coming 3rd in NHL scoring

-Talbot will win the Vezina

-Jokinen will start the season hot, and replace Maroon on first line RW and finish with 60 points

-Yamamoto will make the team out of training camp, slowly regress due to the physical play on the NHL and be sent down to the WHL at the 1/4 season mark, while Pulj has a slow slow start to the year, start in the AHL yet will tear it up by the 1/4 season mark and be called up to replace Yama on Mcdavids RW, he will thrive and never see the AHL again. Yama will be traded from Spokane to a championship contender and go on to win the Memorial cup and lead the WHL in ppg

-Kassian has 0 goals disallowed this year (boldest one yet i know )

Also obligatory result of these predictions is Oilers win the cup

I don't see how he can be the whipping boy. If he totally sucks it's on PC for trading for him.

He's never played for the Oilers so it's kinda fair to assume that he's going to need at least a month or two to get some chemistry with the team, which is bound to push back his production.

Drai is a much easier target for being the whipping boy.

He'll be getting paid anywhere in between 6-9M per season and expecting him to score 70+ points without McDavid is a we bit lofty to say the lest.

1. Draisaitl outperforms McDavid in the playoffs again.
2. Draisaitl will be considered same tier as McDavid after the season.
3. Draisaitl with most Powerplay points on the Oilers.
4. Draisaitl with 2 regular season hat-tricks.
5. Talbot has a rough start in the season.

-Larsson scores a career high and breaks 30 pts.
-Nurse scores a career high and breaks 12 pts.
-Oilers struggle to hit .500 without Sekbeauty.
-the league sits on its hands and watches as McDavid is targeted (with illegal checks) all year.
-the Oilers remain in the hunt for a playoff spot down the stretch but lose out to the spoon-fed California teams.
