CHI/ STL roadtrip

for those that don't know..handtrick and i have a unique opportunity coming up this next week.. we're going on the pred 2 game roadtrip with the team, the team plane, hotel, team meals, morning skatearounds, locker room .. should be the trip of a lifetime for hockey fools like us and we should basically have unlimited access to players and management.. for example they asked if we want to eat tuesday night with crisp and the coaches and someone(?) from management..

we laughingly threw this out on the other boards simply to drive the kids there crazy, but in all seriousness if there are any questions you want to be put directly to the players/coaches that are burning in the back of your mind let us know in the next couple of days (we leave tuesday morning)

obviously i have several strategy things i want to ask about or try to poke around and see.. sully on the pp, some of the line combo ideas, the whole umbrella versus the overload...

and we want to watch how the team prepares for a game from the inside

and of course we want to try to observe team dynamics, i.e. who the natural team leaders are, how the team interacts off ice, who the best/least liked guys are those type things.. and we want to get candid off the record type observations from players/coaches/announcers

but if there's something particular you have in mind let us know, maybe we can find out

I hope your trip is everything you hope it will be, but I have to tell you that my nephew won a western Canada roadtrip at the unmasked ball in the 2002/3 season. While they had lots of interaction with Pete and Terry and some of the staff, they were hustled on and off airplanes after the players and kept strictly away from them. I'm sure my nephew wouldn't have been pushy about getting close to team members though because they did see some of them during off hours shopping at a mall in Vancouver but didn't approach them.

this is of course possible dago, might happen this way though we've been led to believe we'll have pretty much all the access we can have.. which ever way it pays out, will be a fun trip... course i have to put up with handtrick for 3 straight days

You can't fool us! 3 days with handtrick is the only reason you're going

I think if you’re proactive about talking to the players, they’ll be more than willing to talk to you. I assume that you’ll be sitting with “the media” on the plane, so you probably won’t get a great opportunity then. But maybe then you can pick John Glennon’s mind

You probably won’t get a great opportunity to see the behind the scenes action during the game (i.e. the locker room between periods), but maybe some of the game preparation (i.e. special team meetings). I assume that Greg Harvey is escorting you? If so, I’d let him know up front you want to be a part of as much as possible, and keep pestering him about doing more. If they bring along someone from community relations to escort you, it will be harder to get an “exclusive” behind-the-scenes pass. Or maybe Pete Weber will be your “escort”?

I still think that Walker is the “glue” of the locker room, in terms of having everyone’s respect and friendship. I don’t know how Kariya, Markov, Witt, Sillinger have affected the room leadership wise, so it will be interesting to see if you can draw any conclusions.

Good luck.

Don't let this opportunity slip through your hands. Really grill Trotz and coaches, see if you can get 'em to think about fixing this situation. Hah, but really, enjoy yourself and be sure to take a lot of mental notes.

They bid on the trip with the silent auction at the unmasked ball. They had a little help from a member of this board (not me)......helps to have friends in right places!

I talked to them just prior to departure this afternoon and they sounded excited.
