Sam and JD said something the other night about needing a combo of five points gained or lost by atlanta.
1 will clinch

but we're not supposed to talk about this

I'm interested in seeing how the team lets the four day break affect them, it's a good indicator of how well the coaching staff prepares the team. In general I've been a strong supporter of Renney throughout the season, I see this game as a test for him as well as the team (that one's a given). Cmon boys let's smoke those not nice guys (something about cracking down on the swears and venting and stuff...) and get revenge on last games debacle!!

I think the Rangers need to make sure Philly isn't comfortable in front of the net. If I remember correctly, the Flyers have been pretty successful this year camping out in front of the net, screening the goalie and deflecting the puck in the net. They need to clear the crease and give Weekes a good view.

Any word on Kasparaitis? Is he in the lineup tonight?

With the rest, the team should not have to take lazy penalties, and NY needs to score first, to set the tone for the game. Weekes can redeem himself with a nice win tonight. Kasper most likely won't be in the lineup.

Lets do this. Special teams will need to be sharp and I hope the defense looks better than it has the past several outings. Big game for Kevin Weekes.

Will Circus Arnardo or the Rangers show up tonight? If they decide to do the circus show they should at least make the Flyers earn it this time around. No more stupid penalties and 5 on 3 kills please.

I predict 2-0 Rangers win. I predict Weekes will be ready and come out big knowing he will get the start in a big game. I predict a physical game but not alot of penalties called. a fight or 2 will prolly happen.

Big BIG game tonight for a few individuals/groups.

1. Weekes. With Henke out, this is a chance for Kevin to show he's more than an emotional, lockerroom leader and can contribute and fill a hole. If he has a strong showing and a win, it will give this Ranger team alot of confidence knowing that their backup is willing and able.

2. Renney. Long break in between games, does anyone know if this is the longest of the year, excluding Torino? We'll see what the coaching staff did to bring this baby home

3. The Clutchers and Grabbers. Alot of the recent penalties commited by the Rangers have been lazy ones, and as some previous posters said before, this might be a sign of fatigue. This break should have helped them, and I'm sure they went over this in practice. Cant take many penalties.

4. PK/Defense. You cant expect the Rangers to eliminate ALL penalties, so it will be up to the PK to step it up and clear the front of the net for Kevin. Alot of the goals let in by Weekes are soft, but alot has to do with no defensive presence. The D needs to step it up, on the PK too.

5. Rangers. This is the first time we can clinch a playoff spot in a loooong time. That should prove to be motivation to go all out tonight. This game can, and IMO will, affect the rest of the season and the playoffs.

Lets Go Rangers!!

Weekes can win this game as long as we play smart. No reason to throw in the towel...

I don't know why it's all on Weekes. Forwards need to back check. Defensemen need to clear the zone when they get the chance and not make cute little passes in their own zone. The whole team needs to stay out of the box.

Agreed SBoB...

and Fire Sather, if I'm understanding you correctly. The Rangers need to get back to the way they played prior to the Olympics. Diligent on the backcheck, diligent getting the puck out, pursuing the puck in the offensive zone, and putting constant pressure on. They do that, it's a lot easier for Weekes to backstop this team to a win.

but if Weekes plays bad all that might not get it done.

but of course not doing those things could waste a good game from Weekes.

I dont think its all on Weekes, but aside from clinching tonight, Kevin has the best chance to make the best of this. He makes some good saves, plays good early, get the crowd on his side, possibly a win, and all of a sudden a new Kevin Weekes, when we need him the most.

Then you might want to check out the Woldpack in about a week or so. Montoya is not in any way, shape, or form NHL ready no matter the amount of adrenaline he may have.

I'm not an expert, and I haven't seen Montoya play this year in Hartford.. but his stats say he is having a decent year.... I know he wouldn't fare too well against the Flyers.. but I would say we wouldn't lose anything if he played against the Isles.. Why are you so against him starting?

Tough choice... Rangers game or University dissertation (which is due on Thursday)... HA! I'll listen to the game AND write the dissertation!

"When conducting research using an exploratory approach, Jagr at the right circle winds up, primary research dominates secondary research, as Jagr scoreeeees! Number 53!!!" :-)

Weekes: Shut that 5-hole and the Flyers down!
NYR Defensemen: Get your act together!
NYR: Stay outta the box!

Because even IF the Rangers do all this, Kevin Weekes has a tendency to give up that crucial "soft" goal or at least one that most feel that Lundy would of had. Right or wrong the stats say that Weekes is going to give up 1 more goal per game than Lundy. I only hope that one goal isn't a softie...

Yeah, Weekes, try not to let in all those softies while your defense is absolutely flawless again.
