IF Canucks HAD to make a trade...

If the Canucks had to make a trade who would you be willing to move and for what?

Easy, Mats Lindgren. He hasn't played or contributed to the team so far this season. I'd trade him for a draft pick.

I'd love to see the canucks get Klemm. He's a B.C. boy and one of the most underrated defensemen in the league. The price would be reasonable since he's on the final year of his contract while rotting away in Chicago. Get him, or a player like him, and I think the Canucks d-corps is one of the best in the league. The ideal situation for me would be to greatly reduce sopel's minutes so that's he's more of a PP specialist. I know some people are going to suggest trading sopel but unless we can get excellent value for him I would argue that the above would be a preferable solution. Unfortunately crow seems totally unwilling to cut back his ice time. Anyway...

Jovo-Malik
Ohlund-Klemm (yikes!)
Salo-Sopel

Extras:Allen/Slegr

They say you need 8 defensemen to make a deep playoff run and right there we've got 8 NHL-caliber dmen.

As for who to give up, the hawks would obviously be looking for youth. Picks and/or prospects should be able to get it done.

If the point of this thread was to suggest players from this current roster to be traded, I can't really think of any. Sopel, if we could get excellent value for him as I previously mentioned, would be about it. I don't really see the point in trading any of our 4th line guys since the return would be so minimal it wouldn't be worth the loss in depth.

I really like the idea of getting Klemm, although if it were to happen, it would be around the March trading deadline. Klemm is a solid stay-at-home d-man who would provide leadership and experience(won 2 cups with the Avs), and would be a calming prescence on the blueline. The only problem is that if he is available at the deadline, I could see a handfull of teams interested in him, upping his value. If he could be had for a 2nd/3rd rounder or a decent prospect, I'd do it, he'd be a great addition for a long playoff run.

I mentioned this on the trade talk board...but the two things I think the Canucks would eventually be interested in are:

a) Second line scoring eventually (someone like Bondra)
b) A solid stay-at-home d-man to bolster them going into the playoffs (Why the heck wouldn't Burke try for Rathje who would come cheap possibly due to UFA status).

As far as what they have: Umberger, Allen, Sopel, Ruutu, and maybe picks? They definitely look to be overflowing with 4th line players --- but I can't see Keane, May or Lindgren being worth anything...other then maybe LOW draft picks at the deadline.

Unfortunetly Brent Sopel isn't available unless the Canucks get a mobile dman back.

Yeah, Arvy has really made that line better with his speed and good defence... don't see the sense in trading him.

At this point adding another d just takes away from the Canucks other player, all whom deserve ice time. I would say unless they are actually trading someone from their defence, I would wait untill close to the deadline, or a couple of months before anyhow, and then pick up a guy like Klemm. Gives him enough time to fit in, and the staff would have an excellent idea of where the defence was actually weak.

Doesn't Klemm make like, $4 million bucks a year? Yikes, no thanks.

I'd like to pick up Mike Rathje, personally.

Not quite.

$2.5M, although in my mind that's still a bit hefty for a player of his calibre.

2.5 is quite reasonable for him actually. Plus we'd pick him up closer to the trade deadline so the canucks would end up paying only around 1 million of that. In comparison, Rathje makes $2,025,000. Not much of a difference.

I would trade Cloutier, Sopel, Lindgren, May, and Keane off the Canucks roster right now.

Guys I've always wanted my hands on: (no particular order)

G Marc Denis
G Martin Gerber
G Tomas Vokoun
L Ladislav Nagy
L Jan Bulis
R Aleksey Morozov
D Andrei Markov
D Rostislav Klesla
D Jay Bouwmeester
L Kristian Huselius

Which I think is very true.

I think the best trade the Canucks could make right now would be for a defensemen just like Sopel only better. Burke would have to find a team that is looking lower salary and Burke would have to be willing to spend more money on improving his defense.

Way to generalize. I hated Arvedson in Ottawa where he played a major role and I dislike him here, where he doesn't get as much ice time (thank god). He "brings" a negligible amount of offense; he has no grit to speak of and cheapshots like a punk; he's one hell of a playoff choker (like we need more of those); his play has steadily declined since 1999; and he's taking up a roster spot that I think should go to a guy off the farm like Bouck, Smith, or even Kesler. He's a solid checker, that's it, and god knows we have more than enough pluggers on the farm.

Reign Nateo brings up someone I completely forgot, though: Cloutier. I would trade him for a decent goalie in a heartbeat (though off his list the only ones I would want are Denis and Vokoun...Gerber not proven enough)

I'd be really happy to take a Denis! Didn't know all that much about Arvedson... but from this he sounds just awful! I cetainly don't see him being a great scorer, but he seems to be a pretty good fit with Linden and Cooke. I could see Kesler taking his spot now that you mention it... but he seems to be doing pretty well on the CAnucks. Perhaps he will do well with a change of scenery.

Here is my list of tradeables:

1) Brad May: doesn't do a whole lot IMO.

2) Sopel: need to get a d-man back in return but would be glad to see the guy go.

3) Arvedsson: got him to be a 2nd line scorer but now that King is in that spot he has become redundant.

I'd love to see Jan Bulis play where Arvedson is playing right now. He's a pretty under-rated guy. Most of that list ain't coming here, though, that's for sure

If we were forced by the league to make a trade, we'd probably do something pointless like trading 4th round draft picks with New Jersey

Bouwmeester and Klesla are well beyond what the Nucks have to offer. Morozov would be a suitable offensive type. Denis' value is much higher then any of the Nucks goalies - plus, for some reason, Burke has endless faith in (or thats the way he talks) in Cloutier. I know this is off topic, but IMO Hedburg could end up turning Vancouver into a two goalie town like Minny.
