Your thoughts on why we suck so bad on the road

We have the 2nd best home record in the league, but our road record is literally average at best (27-6-1 vs 15-16-7), and with the divisional opponents we get to ream 12 times a year on the road (hypothetically speaking, of course)

Who or what do you attribute to our lack of success on the road

It would be nice if Trotz took the handcuffs off Hordichuk and Tootoo.

Sometimes I'd like to see the Tootoo of old. The hits aren't lacking, but a good fight can spark a team. Why for the life of me Hordichuk sits on the bench in close games is beyond me.

Interestingly, I asked Terry Crisp that very question last night. He said he didn't think we were that bad of a road team (which I don't get). He said it boils down to when Vokoun is "on" the rest of the team plays well. When Vokoun plays less than steller, the team doesn't play well.

I would like to point out that when we are playing a road game - the HOME team has the advantage of putting out the players they want to play against our guys.

I believe this is the advantage of playing at home and why home-ice is desirable for the playoffs.

This answer doesn't surprise me from Crispy.....he has never come off as the sharpest knife in the drawer, but that is for another discussion......

I assume you talked to him at the winetasting......if so how was it?

That's a company line if I have ever heard one. I don't buy that at all. Vokoun can't be on for 70+ games his Defense in front needs to do their job before it gets to him.

He said some other things that were far from the company line....far, far, far...
I'm not going to post them on here.

I understand your not wanting to repeat them here, though it's not really against any rule.

I wouldn't mind if you PMed me, though

That's one of those chicken or egg type answers.

Is the team playing bad because Vokoun is off, or is Vokoun off because the team is playing bad?

But the thing is...one egg is a little more acceptable than the other. Goaltenders will have an off night now and then...and of course the team has to pick up the slack in that situation, but the most important trait of a goaltender is the ability to elevate his play when he sees the team isn't with it that night. I think, in general, that's the case with Vokoun.

I wonder if the root of our road woes is Trotz's inability to forecast the matchups he desires when he doesn't get the last change. Matchups are one of those overlooked importancies of hockey, and we've traditionally been a weaker team on the road throughout our history. It's tough on any coach, but some struggle with it even more. Of course the crowd factor, comfort of your own barn, yadda yadda...all mean something as well, but that last change is HUGE.

I think this is a major part of the problem. Trotz can hide our weaknesses at home but not on the road

They feed off the crown at the GEC. On the road they got nothing. No coaching, no team leadership, no inspiration. I'm fed up with old NO NECK!
