I know Jost and Compher and the kids are going to turn heads in a positive way, even if they don't light up the scoresheet. But I just have this sinking feeling Mironov is going to be rock solid as a 4/5 defender and have a real underdog fan favorite season. Avs have a dearth of reliable defenders, if Mironov can step in and play a consistent defensive game with some big hits, gnarly board play and contribute positively then he'll be talk about a lot around here.

I think casual fans are going to love the hell out of him. His hits are going to be really energizing to the home crowd, and as someone who attended 17 games last year, the home crowd will need it. The difference between the atmosphere in there from the home opener to December to the end of the year was palpable, it's going to be important for them to get people excited, and Mironov decking a few guys is going to get him some real attention in a positive way.

Why is that a "sinking" feeling?

But yes if he delivers big hits and plays even semi-reliable defense he will be an automatic fan-favorite.

Possible Lines

I think i would like to see
Andrighetto- Mackinnon- Rantanen
Wilson- Duchene- Jost
Landeskog- Compher- Yakupov
Nieto- Soderberg- Comeau

johnson- Zadorov
Barrie- barberio
Mironov- Bigras
Lindholm

Varly
Bernier

Could always switch out jost and yak depending on their performance, and compher/ soda could swap as well.

Let me know what you think

players to watch

and i think Mironov and wilson will turn some heads. I think wilson will be a reliable shut down guy that can put up some points, while mironov will be throwing some huge hits.

Jost and compher will be good, but I say Mironov and wilson because they dont have as much hype

That's probably how I'd have it as well assuming those are the players we start the season with.

That said, I cant see any way Soderberg being on the 4th line doesn't result in disaster for him and the Avs. He's a player who will tune out quickly if he starts the season in the doghouse and that will pretty quickly have a negative impact on the rest of the team as well IMO.

That's why I think one of Jost/Compher need to start the year in the AHL until injuries come up or the Yak experiment fails and then call them up. Personally I would have Jost be the one to start the year in the AHL as well. I really liked Comphers game with us last year and think he's ready for important minutes in the NHL. Jost I'm not so sure about and think a couple months in the AHL would do nothing but help him.

Put Soderberg back with Landeskog where he worked well in his first year here, and roll out something like:

Sven - Mack - Rants
Landy - Soda - Yak
Wilson - Compher - Duchene
Nieto - Colborne - Comeau

I want Compher on the RW if we're re-uniting Sodaskog.

Probably because I'd rather it be someone else I was picking.

Can we just assume that Zadorov won't be at camp?

500K is closer than what Bennett nor Athanasiou, not only that, but Pastrnak, Horvat, Anderson, Severson, Lindbohm, Foligno, and Wotherspoon all haven't been signed yet.

It's not like Zadorov is the only one out there.

As annoying as the Zadorov situation is, this sadly gives me some comfort.

A lot of unsigned players out there right now. Which seems to be a growing trend of the past few seasons.

Yep, happens every year. Specific agencies and GMs have to do with it some, but this now happens regularly. Even holdouts do.

Someone is going to hold out and/or leave, just depends who it is.

Sure, seems like 500k isn't something to walk over but depends which party gets pushed to the brink of if there's any room to compromise.

I think a factor with players now is the whole 'cap penalty' (meaning the year over year adjustment) for signing a player into the season. Teams will want to avoid that, so players are trying to use that to their advantage to get teams to cave.

Nice, some preseason games as well. I'm still going to try to go to one of them, but it'll be nice to catch those two as well.
