Do you really expect him to say "ya I wanted to sign with Detroit but.. I'm still a Restricted free agent so I guess I'm stuck here.."

sorry but what Todd said was just something everybody would say.

TSN is reporting a 24m/4year deal.

That's 6m/year -- 1 more than Naslund's.

Very good news. Oilers fans are probably going to have a heart attack, though. They've always held onto the hope that like them, the Canucks won't be able to hang onto their clutch players. This is a sign that the Canucks can and will. BTW...there was no offense meant to the Oilers in there.

it's not a 4 year extension - it includes this year, so it's pretty much a 3 year extension, plus a restructuring of his contract for this year.

WoooHoo! I know alot of Oiler fans, namely hemskyfan, were hoping Bert wouldn't sign....Bet they're pretty disappointed. Good to lock up our best player and not have to trade him for Jochen Hecht. Wooohooo! Go Canucks!

No, extension means it will be a new deal after this current contract expired which is not the case right now. It is a brand new deal starting right now.

Good to see, glad he didn't get the 10 million everyone was sure he'd get. A fair deal from both sides. I predicted a 4-year at 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7.5 so I guess that was a little low, but not much. Fair deal, let's hope the distractions end tonight.

Structure of the deal:

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- The Vancouver Canucks re-signed Todd Bertuzzi to a $28 million, four-year contract Sunday.

The deal, which runs through the end of the 2006-07 season, includes a $3 million signing bonus, Bertuzzi's agent said.

Pat Morris said Bertuzzi would make $4.3 million this season, $6.6 million next season and $6.9 million in each of the final two years.

That's weird. I was sure they'd make this year be worth the most $$$ so as to reduce the number under the new CBA to keep team payroll in check. Hmmmmmm.

Considering though that the signing bonus is included in that $28 million, looks like a good deal.
