Looking good. Excited to see how he does in exhibition games.

Trades might allow others into the lineup.

But, as a tweet from a few months ago - I think by Shilton - stated: Babs immediately responded to a question about Martin not once being left out of the lineup with "nor will he be"
1) Nothing is a garuntee in the NHL. Babs will play the guys he feels will give us the best chance to win.

2) Babs said those things before Marleau and Moore, did he not.

Last year was last year, and Hyman's rookie season. He can very well be better this season and play a 'looser' game. As many have suggested, it wouldn't be far-fetched to see his SH% increase to 8-9 or so.

On Defense (2 spots + bench):

Gonna be a good battle! I'm particuarly interested in following Aaltonen, Rosen and Borgman.
You can remove Martin and Moore from the Forward list, both locks to make the Team.

Rookie tournament was fun, but ready for the regular season already, I can settle for some pre-season games in the mean time

Amazing how someone can say nothing even talking for 30 minutes. The only thing I got was they are considering Dermott and Neilson for Leaf jobs.

Oh that interview was a masterful lawyer/politician job. I don't even think Nielsen will be considered very much. It's basically Dermott/Borgman/Rosen competing for 1 spot.

the last 1/4 of the season Nylander ran the Matthews line and was likely one of the best if not the best forward when things started to get tough heading into the playoffs, why would anyone want to move him to a shutdown line?. Why waste that talent there. Hyman would be perfect on the shutdown line. I agree with your "bottom 6" there that's how is SHOULD line up but not sure we see Hyman away from Matthews at all this season

is that how they normally do it? seems like really short amount of on ice time before the 1st game. Not that it matters too much seems like the whole squad has been on the ice "unofficially" for a week or 2 now

Bergevin said today that Galchenyuk won't be a Center, that's he's seen enough to know that.

Lamoriello, when asked about any coaching decision, repeats that it's completely up to Mike Babcock and his staff.

I love it

well it's true that Galy is not a center and never will be.

the problem is neither is Drouin.

Really hope we can get Martin out of the lineup. Would absolutely love to see this roster:

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Komarov
JVR-Bozak-Marner
Kapanen-Moore-Brown

Would be filthy. Kadri's line stays just as good at checking but also adds more offensive ability with Marleau. 4th line stays gritty with Brown down there, and Kapanen adds offense and speed. Could swap and move around any of Komarov/Brown/Hyman.

The Leafs have a good case at the best run organization in the league. Habs have a good case for the worst. It's night and day really.

What did Lou say that hinted towards Nielsen potentially making the team?? I missed it...

As for the lines, I think we see the following:

JVR - Matthews - Nylander
Marleau - Bozak - Marner
Hyman - Kadri - Brown
Komarov - Moore - Kapanen
Martin

Rielly - Hainsey
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Dermott - Liljegren
Carrick
-Rosen/Borgman

I see Kapanen moving up the lineup throughout the season. Ideally, I think he's a perfect fit on the Kadri line or the Matthews line.

If you watch the lou interview with bobby mac, he says that Dermont and Neilson were the two young d-man.

After watching the two rookie games, I think Liljegren is immensely promising, as advertized. But I also think his promise needs development time, either in the AHL or Sweden, or both. I would be very surprised to see him in the NHL this season. And if I am mistaken and he is in the NHL, I doubt he would be paired with another rookie. He would do better with a veteran partner, IMO.
