One-way vs. Two-way contract

As I'm fairly new to reading about the business doings of hockey, one thing in particular has me completely befuddled, that being the terms "One-Way" and "Two-Way" contracts. What is the difference between the two? What advantages does having these two types of contracts give the league? Disadvantanges?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

A two way contract calls for one salary if the player is in the NHL and another if he is in the minors. All rookie contracts are "two way" under this collective agreement. In other words, the money is not guaranteed. If a player is sent down, the salary usually drops to about $35,000.

After the first contract, players can be qualified with a two way contract under this CBA if they played less than 55 games the year before.

A one way contract guarantees the money. Curtis Joseph was paid $90,000 for the game he played in the minors.
