Little moment for the Rivals gang

Ladies and Gentlemen,
We have been "together" for close to a decade and this is the first time that we will have a chance to discuss the playoffs as they pertain to the Rangers. For something like 9 years, we have only talked about the playoffs as they relate to how other teams are playing. Through Muckler, Smith, Sather, Campbell, Low & Trottier, we have finally arrived at a time when we can have a meaningfull discussion about what the Rangers will do in the playoffs.
It's been a very, very long time.

What about the fact that Mess left and came back and retired in that time frame?

You measure the time in Ranger history but what about personal history. So much has changed for me since the Ranger were in the dance. And leave it to me to schedule my wedding for April 22.

I never thought that it might be the Rivals curse keeping the Rangers out of the playoffs. Hmmmm......

Now you are making me self-concious. Wasn't the HFDS born during the playoffs? I seem to recall us wanting to have a playoff game turned on at the bar and when they refused (to watch the Knicks as I recall), we packed up and took our drinking elsewhere.

From Brooks:

Nine years, eight seasons, 173 players and five head coaches had come and gone between invites to the postseason ball.

http://www.nypost.com/sports/rangers/64008.htm

He left out two GMs.

April 22?

my sister's b-day. Good luck. I did it last year on May 21. Interestingly enough, I started to date my wife in March 1997. After those playoffs, we had a drought, then we got married and all of the sudden the playoffs. See, marriage can be a good thing (but I can't ever tell her that).

It is a good day for the old Rivals crowd. No more talk about the mummy and all the other transients we saw come in (170-some odd (some very odd) players? wow!).

I remember when I found out about Low getting fired. I had to log on from Venice, Italy to say "Ding-dong the witch is dead".
170, players huh? From the immortal Tominator (though his clone currently plays here) to the mighty Fedyk to the unstoppable Sweeney.

Not possible. I didn't move from ATL to NY until 1998.

I meant during the NHL playoffs as a whole, not during the last time the Rangers made the playoffs.

Ah yes, that's true. First game for Carolina of the first round in 2002, Kevin Weekes in net, Davisian giddy with excitement.

Congrats guys, not one 'Golf' reference heard here in a longtime

Usually the board is full of draft talk/ offseason UFA's.

Lets meetup at the Wee for some bubbly at the end of the month !

I think that whether or not we are inside or outside during a game, we definetly need to have a get-together to celebrate.

It's been too long, but it just makes it that much more sweet when it does happen!

Where's MooseMessier? I figured he'd be going bonkers by now.

God some of the posters on here were really young the last time this team made the playoffs.

Some of them probably couldn't even REALLY remember those feelings.

To think some of our battles were wheteher or not Nedved was a legit #1 center. (okay, I'll admit it, I was wrong. )

So everyone of you goofballs that registered in Feb 2002 is from the "Rivals" board? I'm trying to remember if that was the board that experienced the rath of my evil, alter-ego BigE.

I'm fairly subdued here, and especially so on the EHM board, but I let loose on a few people on another Ranger board and found it inhospitable after a while.

Ahh, to be young again.

I recall those debates. Moose vs. Laches. Those were some good times, despite the fact that our beloved team was about as bad as it gets. Kind of funny when you think about. There have been several posters who have questioned our fandom because some of us are more cynical/pessimistic than others. But when you consider the amount of time that we spent debating the likes of Nedved and other topics and how long we have stuck with this team........

What was ALWAYS amusing is when we'd get a troll, usually from the Flyers board, we'd all rally around each other. We could blast this organization, but no one else could.

Those debates were priceless. It seemed no matter what the topic was of a thread it turned into a Nedved is/isn't a #1 center...
