It sucks to have Begin out, but Lappy is going to be pumped. I think hes going to do a decent job, especially since he is coming into the picture in the middle of the playoff race. He knows his role, and is going to show everyone what he can do.
At least, Lapierre will most likely become our bigger Begin for years to come so it's still a good thing. And Maxim can score...just like Begin. The only thing is that he will probably not play on the PK...and even if he play, he will not be as good as Steve...
I dont believe it means anything about Begin except that he'll at least miss the next game which was quite obvious and that BG didnt wanted Zednik to fill his spot so.... Again it was quite obvious..
Great news for Lapierre, I love his play. On the downside, I guess this means an extended absence for Begin which really hurts. Those will be some big shoes for Lapierre to fill, but hopefully the team doesn't take this loss too hard.
Anways, great to see Lapierre up again, hopefully he'll get some decent experience.
I remember at the beginning of the season, when Lapierre was cut off the big club, he was speaking to RDS about how disappointed he was to being cut, was looking so bad, looking at his feet, but also said that he will show to the team what's he's made of, work his butt off and said he'll do everything he has to stay with the big club next time... Gotta love this attitude, a winner one
No link, sorry
He's going to be something special, I think, bigger and better than Begin, with some more offensive potential
Higgins - Koivu - Ryder
Bulis - Ribs - Kovy (used in the last 5 or so mins of the NJD game)
Murray - Plek - Perez
Lapierre - Bonk - Downey
If bullis can start to produce on a consistant basis it would be great cause the guy can fly. but i believe he is a great 3rd line guy with the ability to move around the lineup in emergincies. I hope he accepts his role in the NHL and embraces it instead of being a crybaby complaining about not being a top line guy. Playing in europe last year gave the guy some false expectations i think and his play has suffered this year because of it. He is not the same 2way player he was . He is thinking about offence too much. I miss the old bullis
On one hand, I'd really like to see Lapierre get a shot at filling in Begin's role. I've always been fond of Lapierre's game.
On the other hand, I really would be surprised (and unsure of whether it's the right decision) to see Lapierre get the nod over Bulis or Zednik.
Somewhat amusing that Sundstrom is completely out of the picture.
Another option: playing seven D.
The reason why Lapierre was recalled is because he is the type of player that can replace Bégin in the alignment. Bulis and Zednik couldn't really play a fourth line player role. But Maybe Gainey will put Murray with Bonk and Downey and add Zednik on Plekanec's line with Perezhogin. I guess we'll have to wait until Monday to see!

Not sure if they'd choose to play Lapierre off wing for his first NHL game. The adjustment to a higher caliber combined with the new position might be too much.
If they really wanted him in the lineup to replace Begin's spark, then I'd love to see him play on the right side of Plekanec and Perezhogin, but I doubt he'll dress. If he does, what message does this send to Zednik?
Why Lapierre and not Andrei Kostsitsyn ? In my opinion, Murray can "replace" Begin on the fourth line and Kost can bring some offense on the second line...

Well no denying Zednik has sucked this year, but if they've decided to give up on him, why now and not at the trading deadline? Could have brought a piece of (very) moderate value where we have bigger holes (depth Dman for example, might have fetched better than Simpson, though I have nothing against him per say).
