Safe to say, Tampa can keep Richards if that's what it would take.

For a Player like Richards, it would take more than that from Montreal, not saying I'd do it as a GM, but it would take more.

I disagree, this is a new NHL, Giving up Higgins, Komosarek, and a first for a UFA is suicide unless you can sign him long term but I think the new league and rules are better made to building your own team through good drafting than giving away all your future bright players for one elite player.

No way I'm trading both Higgins and Komo.

Seriously...Higgins 9 goals in his last 8 games. That guy is a stud.

I hope Higgins becomes more like Muller and he is starting to look like it with intelligence and leadership qualities. I hope the stories of Muller coming to Montreal as a coach would be great for Higgs and Chipchura

"He's not UFA"

Isn't Richards going to be a UFA this summer? Or did he sign a long term with Tampa? I thought Tampa had signed Vincent and St Louis only?

I'm pretty sure he's RFA. Can someone with real info validate this?

He is RFA... he's only 26 yrs old with 5 accrued seasons.
To be UFA you need to be at least 29 yrs old or have played 8 accrued seasons.

I don't have any link to official sources on this... but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Thanks I thought he was a UFA from reading the problems Tampa was going to have in trying to sign all of Richards, Lecav, and St Louis. To bad they forgot they needed a decent goalie as well

Still I would rather keep Higgins and Komosarek then trade for Richards.

I think a fair deal for both sides and certainly a doable one from habs perspective woudl be,

Ryder, Komisarek and a 1st round pick.

You can then use UFA money to replace Ryder (although you have Kostytsin coming). Ribeiro is expendable, along with Zednik.

and UFA money or trades to attract another top 2 or at worst top 4 D. With Markov, Rivet, Sourray and Dandenault. Bouillon can be re-signed and Streit although I'm critical of him coming around.

I think from a habs perspepctive anyways i don't want to speak for the other side, that this can be done, as long as a long term deal is signed of course.

I fail to see the humour in that thread.

Higgins, Komisarek and a 1st is probably about what it would take to get a player of Richards' caliber. I'm sure there are other teams who can come up with better offers. I don't want to get into hypotheticals and I don't know Richards' exact situation but top flight centers like him cost a lot.

Now there is the Thornton trade which maybe set the bar and can be used to measure against, but each trade is different so the circumstances surrounding a possible move for Richards would surely be different.
