I won't say that Garon is quite a top ten goalie just yet. For most of the season he had a good offense in front of him too. But with the amount of highlight reel saves hes made (I've seen Garon make more amazing saves than ANYBODY else) i think the potential is easily there. He just needs to develop consistancy.
Agree with the "we have to wait and see" consensus.
But given the fact that the trade didn't go through, I wish that the Luongo to LA rumours didn't get so much attention...it gave everyone the impression that Garon was a failed experiment... which he is not.
Wouldn't most of you agree that if Garon played behind a better defense or better team, he'd have much more than 31 wins?
But I would still like to see where he places in wins/60-minutes and saves/60 minutes because the stats that you cited are volume stats (the more you play, the better the stat looks) and might have a lot to do with Garon playing in the 6th most games or the 8th most minutes.
I don't know if it would change any of his rankings, but it might. My hunch, by standardizing it per 60-minutes of play, it will push him into the 12-15 range.

Whatever he is, I'm fine with the Kings going with him next year. He's kept the Kings in games lately, when it could've been 3-0 or 4-0 five minutes into the game. When 4 or 5 guys in front of you aren't doing much of anything on every shift, there's only so much that can be done. He does give up his share of bad goals, maybe a few more than average, but he also flat out steals a few goals away too, maybe a few more than average.
I only wish we had a nice mid-level vet backup. I'm not all that picky about who it is either. Just someone who isn't a kid and can win you a few games now and again.
I think much of Garons problem was that when he went into one of his weeks long slumps we didn't have anyone who could take his place.
I hope the backup goalie position is open for compitition next year.
I think this is the problem. Poor guy is probably burnt out. I don't think he's a 65+ games starter, maybe more like 55-60. We definitely need a strong backup who can play 20-25 games a year. That's just plain reasonable. A lot of the time when I'm watching highlights (lousy eastern Canadian TV doesn't show the Kings) I always see half of the goals coming on 2 on 0s. That's not Garon's fault. That's the defense. Give the guy a decent D and a solid backup and he'll be that much better.
