Avery's been damn good for this team this year...but if he WAS a cancer in the dressing room, maybe this is the right call.

Unfortunately, it also means that you're taking one of the only players whose been putting in an effort off the ice.

Granted Avery was one of the few players to show some heart the lfew months. Maybe it's just me, but all season it's that for every good thing he did, it was offset by some bonehead action.

It will be interesting to see which team takes a gamble on Sean and how the fans take to him after he starts playing for the team.

All I have to say about not bringing Avery back...

Good.

Well I for one did like Avery .....and I don't care how you guys slice it.....he was one of the only players out there who is still trying to win the games.....I challenge you to name someone else on the team that you can say that about. But oh well.

This team is about as screwed up as it can possibly be right now. The best thing for the Kings going forward from this point is to blow the whole thing over and start from scratch. I honestly cannot see very many things in this organization worth keeping right now.....that is including Frolov.

I wish you guys through him in on the Mark Parrish trade. I would love to see this guy in an Islanders uniform. Hopefully whatever GM the Isles decide to hire can work soemthing out to bring him to the island. What a line it would be if he came over

Asham Avery Blake.

That would give the word aggitator a whole new meaning. Plus they would score. Avery is capable of burying 15-20 Asham 10-15 and Blake 25-30.

Probably just pipe dreams that will never come true but I would love to see it.

Agree about Avery...as for the rest of the organization, keep the forward core minus Luc and maybe JR...give 'em another year under a new system and I think they'll change your mind.

And seriously people: LUC AVATARS

Maybe it is just the frustration of the whole season......but I feel like this team has no direction.....I feel like this team has less potential now than at any other point I have been a fan. I hope that I am wrong, but I see a few Pittsburgh like finishes for the Kings over the next few seasons.....not that that is necessarily a bad thing....I guess it is better than finishing in the middle of the pack year after year.

what's the scoop with this UFA status. I thought he was an RFA. Are we going to get anything for this?

I like the idea of giving Gleason a leadership role...it was suggested by someone else earlier in the year. And I also read an article about him awhile back that had some good things to say about the quality player that he is. Add to that the fact that, with Avery gone, he's the only player willing to fight for his teammates, and I think he could be a good start for the direction you're talking about.

So, I guess that this means the Kings have to carry him as a healthy scratch for the remainder of the season and won't be able to call up a replacement?

They aren't going to make him a qualifying offer, so he will be a UFA

No
Any chance they could qualify him and then trade his rights?

There is no way that Avery is a UFA.....the Times have been wrong about several players this year. But if LA doesn't qualify Sean then they are getting nothing for him. Maybe they will trade his rights away for a draft pick.

Maybe part of the reason they are getting rid of Avery for the rest of this season is they want to get rid of any realistic possibility of winning the last 3 games this season. They want a higher draft pick and Avery wasn't following the "Tank the remainder of the season" script.

Maybe DT just wanted to make the whole Schneider trade a "total" loss. If Parrish does not sign with LA in the offseason (and I believe he will not) then all assets received in that trade will be gone.

A team that struggles mightily on the PK to no longer retain the services of a player among the most penalized in the NHL. Sounds like a step in the right direction already if you ask me...

Yup and you're probably gonna end up liking the change.
Kanko get's under guys skin much like Avery.
Kanko fights and stands up for his team mates much like Avery.
Kanko has offensive skill much like Avery.
Kanko's got speed much like Avery.
Unlike Avery, Kanko doesn't take stupid penalties.

Kanko's numbers for this season:
58GP 15G 11A 26PTS -7 48PIMs

Don't be fooled by the low PIMS, Kanko is one tough SOB...
The -7 isn't as bad as it sounds when you consider some of the linemates he's had and the situations he's been used in.
