I'd be careful with predictions. They can be an embarassment. Consider:

In April, four straight games games against Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and San Jose will not be seen on local TV.

An even bigger joke is the fact that this month, the Ducks game against the best team in the league, the Senators, will not be televised.

The only way to watch these games will be through Center Ice, and only hardcore hockey fans subscribe to it. Is this yet another indication of how the Ducks are regarded in SoCal sports?
Oh and thus far the Ducks have the third worst home attendance crowd in the NHL, averaging 13,788 in an arena that seats 17,174 for hockey.
The Ducks games in April are being telecast after all. It's the Kings playoff games in April that are not being televised this year. And playoffs attendance at the Pond will exceed that of Staples.

While the Kings organization was revealed to be a model for the league?

They'll make #4 - #6, and their current payroll is about $31 million, with about $2.7 million in UFAs they won't re-sign. Plenty of cap room for next year.

I don't think having two teams in Southern California is helping the league's goal for growth.

They were brought in to the league to attract a young audience, to bring in a partnership between Disney and the NHL. The NHL wanted its stars to appear in Disney movies, they had a cartoon with an NHL team and this was supposed to help develop a fresh new audience, but it never worked and I don't think it will take off. They had plenty of opportunities and were a great team fast out of the gate after their inaugural season and were in the Stanley Cup Finals their 10th season into the league. The Ducks were set to be an established professional sports team, and it didn't happen, and it won't happen. . .
Another brilliant prediction.

Are you trying to piss people off? We got it, you're in the playoffs, our team sucks. Go gloat elsewhere.

Thanks for pointing that out, especially when I wrote that post back in December. Since then the Ducks dealt Sykora, Ozolinsh, Carney, injected some hungry young players into the lineup, got on a tear with some chemistry being developed between McDonald, Selanne and Kunitz, and the rest is history.

The Ducks attendance is still in the bottom half of the league by the way. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/attendance?year=2006
Good thing its band-wagon season.

Like this poll? http://hfboards.com/poll.php?do=show...s&pollid=17951

For shame, even many Ducks fans had no hope in the team early on in the season. Enjoy the playoffs.

Then PM ZS or bring up that old thread and post there, but don't troll this board. We're dealing with enough BS of watching our team implode that I don't want anyone, Duck fan or otherwise, rubbing it in.

Troll.

I'm still happier than hell that sideshow Avery is gone. It's like having a tumor removed. JR leaving will be icing on the cake. And DT will be gone... so we'll either rebuild and have a future to look forward to, or put our money where our mouth is and compete next season.

And Luc, as much as I love him, retiring will mean more speed and less sentimentality. Maybe we can actually remember how to win and compete next season. Or maybe we'll just have a board full of fans who'd rather ride the jock of emotional jackasses because his act is more entertaining and important than a successful team with chemistry.

Can you give a reason other than his age why he wouldn't be a good candidate?

He was a good leader in juniors as I understand it and he's shown that he's willing to go to war for his teammates this year.

When I look up and down this teams roster Gleason is the one that makes the most sense......most of these other guys couldn't lead a horse to water.

willie,

kings are not that far off...i believe marty when he said that tonite...its not that long ago that the kings were one of the best teams in the league...and they could become again if they can piece together a good offseason. i really think they can be very successfuly in the coming years.
