Why I'm seeing so many rumours??

of elite players coming to montreal, if anything we'll be the one losing veteran players and acquiring prospects, It doesn't make any sence at all for management to trade for any established NHL'r now, Savard learned this hard way when he traded for Chow, What I'm seeing from organization is we'll continue to build from drafts and unload veterans when deadline comes, only time we'll be buying player is when we have contender in our hand, and for now we aren't even in playoff Groupe yet.

I agree. I also think that Gainey is still evaluating what he's got and that's tough to do with the injuries. When Chad and Saku return he (and we) will get a better gauge of just what this team is made of.

Gainey is also known to be a proponent of the "build from within" school of management. With the unknown quantity that is the future CBA figuring into every single equation for all teams in the league, I don't see how the Habs can justify taking on the big guaranteed salaries that come with the big names.

I agree with you. The Habs will be sellers come deadline time, playoffs or not. Expect to see the UFA role players and specialists like Perreault and Juneau leave for a pack of draft picks and/or prospects that will set the team up for the future. Dumping prospects and picks for a couple of verterans that offer no guarantee of playoff success seriously damages the future prospects of your team. Just ask Pat Quinn.

Couldn't agree more. Let's face it, Perreault has 30-goal ability and being the number one face off guy the last 4 years in the NHL is a huge plus. Seeing as how he's a free-agent at the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if someone came calling to rent him for the playoffs. Winning faceoffs in the playoffs is so incredibly important. I'm sure we'd get someone fairly good in return too.

I agree with ya, Habs4ever, but I think a trade for an established player under the age of 28 could be looked at. I don't wanna see us trading all our prospects to get a player of this type, but trading one or two of our 30+'s to get a 26-37 year old seems like a smart trade to me.

Perrault 30goal ability, maybe but his 32years old and he never scored more than 27 and also never showed up on the road and either in the 2nd half . If i'm a G.M i don't want to have Perrault on my team even if he his the best faceoff man in the league.(once he loss a faceoff he don't know what to do ot where to go)

im not a big Perrault fan as you might notice

Didn't stop the Leafs. When he played for them he'd take all the important face offs, win them, then get off the ice and let Sundin play with the team having puck control. I'm sure Dallas would be a team interested in a guy like Perreault. He could take the important faceoffs, get off the ice and let Modano take over. I'm sure he's got more worth than people give him credit for especially on this board.
