Joe Thornton compaired to young Habs players

If the habs could have give more icetime to young players of the habs...

Joe Thornton: 24 years old 6'4 220 lbs.
442 gp 139 g 220 p 359 pts
average time on ice (this season): 21:07

24 y.old and he already played 442 games in NHL. No young habs players have done even the half of what he did, only Kilger have played more games but he is 2 years older and most of the games he played was before he got with the habs:

Begin: 25 years old 5'11 190 lbs
130 gp 12 g 8 p 20 pts
atoi: 10:07

Ribeiro 23 y.o. 6.01 ( according to ESPN ) 176 lbs.
126gp 17g 27p 44pts
atoi: 16:30

Jan Bulis 25 6-2 201
338 51 102 153
16:11

Marcel Hossa 21 6-2 212
54 10 9 19
14:58

Michael Ryder 23 6-0 196
10 1 4 5
13:41

Jason Ward 24 6-3 197
62 6 4 10
10:21

Chad Kilger 26 6-4 224
459 63 76 139
10:42 (last season)

Is it because the young players of the habs are not good enough or is it because they don't have enough icetime?

Stats source: ESPN

There are few players in the whole league that can match Joe, skillwise. Let alone those kids you just named.

Make that a barrel of apples, some of which are pretty rotten, and one good orange.

EDIT: Or is it one fresh apple, and a barrel of sour oranges?

Oh man... you can't even compare them to Big Joe.

Not really an accurate comparison -- the expectations for those players weren't the same as they were for Thornton entering the league & probably never will be.

Most teams in the league don't have a player to compare to Thornton

Chad Kilger and Joe Thornton mentioned in the same post? Is Chad washing his car or something? Thornton is one of the top 5 players in the league. You wouldn't find any of those players mentioned in the Top 250 players in the league.

Even if I hate him Joe Thorton is a phenomenon. End of story. This guy is huge, have a over average skating, can score, fight, name it! How can you compare this guy to ANY player on the Habs uniform. Even Koivu don't have the talent level and the physical presence of Thorton.

And the worst in this story, is that he is only 24... Give him another 4 year and this guy will be scary to see play...

I totaly agree with that... A real comparasion for Thornton, if you really want one, would be Cam Neely, IMHO.

With Todd Bertuzzi, he's the best PF of the league right now... too bad he's in the Bruins jersey!

I'd say Bulis is among the Top 250 players in the league and that Hossa and Ribeiro might get there...

I always wonder what kind of carrer Cam Neely could have if it was not for the injurie. He score 50 goal 3 or 4 time in is carrer and score 50 goal in 44 game, only Gretzky and Lemieux did better. Does anybody remember how he get hurt in the first place? I think I heard somebody tell it was Ulf Samuelson who check him low on the hip somehow.

It's pretty easy to appreciate the rare talent that Joe possesses. He is one of those rare "big guys" who can actually score, and this is at the tender age of 24, which means he hasn't reached his potential yet. So many young phenoms who are scouted as the next power forward star all end up crashing and burning. They develop hands of stone, or else their speed is lacking at the pro level. Joe is the total package and should have a good long successful career barring injuries a la Cam Neely. Boy, Cam was another good one...too bad about those injuries, but more importantly, too bad he was a Bruin (lol).
