Start planning the parade on ste.catherine street now.

It seems that habs fans have lowered their standards during the past decade. Before winning the cup was a priority, now merely making the playoffs is an achievement.

And it only took them until the second last day of the season to do it! Impressive.

Habs fans should look at this way - they're in, the Leafs aren't.

How times have changed. The habs older fans always demanded a stanley cup, now the younger fans are pleased with a playoff position.

There's probably some kind of celebration going on right now as we speak to be fair, due to the drama involved this time. At least there was last time we knock-out the Bruins.

To be fair making the play-offs is a realistic target with the team we have, anything else is a bonus.

You Bruins fans are funny as heck. You'd all love 4 games more in the playoffs. For some reason you think the only way to mock us now is by calling for a sweep. We own you, deal with it.

Also have fun in knowing that with your deals this season and inept management, you've screwed over your system big time for years and years,.

How come the Yankees always set their standards at winning the world series, while the canadians standards are just to make the post season?? And if there is some kind of celebration going on right now, that is really pathetic.

That's better.. still wouldn't be starting threads like this if my team backed into the playoffs, but whatever.

I know there are lot of hypocrits but get real man, I would demand cup from habs too if they had $200 Million payroll, build with all star players, please stop making comparison with baseball, where they don't have salary cap, and Yankees spend like crazy, i'd bet habs could have similar level team if they hadthat big of a budget!!

Backed into the playoffs? Fact is, we're in, because we had a better season then the teams that didnt make it.
Even if we dont beat the Devils, we're in, because the thrashers, and numerous others, didnt accumulate the amount of points we have. Meaning we did enough to get in, and they did not. That isnt backing in at all, that's just being the 7th or 8th best team in the conference. That is all that means.
When it was time to step up, we did..we were the hottest team in the conference for a time there too, dont forget.

Look at the red wings. Each year they want to win the cup, not just make the playoffs. Even with a salary cup the wings are the top team in the NHL.

I'm a big Habs fan, and I'm very pleased we clinch playoff but ...

This thread is absolutely useless. Why post on NHL talk? We already have one on the CH boards. And what the heck with this title? Most successfull franchise, EVER, clinches a play-offs spot. For the most successfull franchise, EVER, clinching a playoff spot is nothing ... not good enough to start a thread ...
