Looks like Wild pick 9th, 17th

With Panthers winning tonight, that puts the Wild 9th from the bottom. By my reckoning, Edmonton's pick would be 17th. Pretty good position for a some decent picks I'd expect.

that's good news. I understand that the #17 is pretty much cemented as long as the Oilers don't win the cup. And then for the #9, it's mathematically possible to rise to #4 or fall to #14?

*nm: looks like this is addressed in the other thread

Nah, we could drop to 10th (if the #10 team hits the Powerball) or rise to 5th if we do. Here's hoping for the latter!

Brassard, Mueller, or Little would look nice next to Gaborik and Pouillot. Remember Mackasey is your pro scout... so i smell Little or Brassard.

I'm still crossing my fingers for 5 and Backstrom. Little, Brassard, Okposo wouldn't be a bad consolation.

9. Frolik/Okposo- These are the 2 forwards I want.
17. N Williams- We need D.

Williams is overrated. He is big and can skate but he is soft for that size and he is a project. I'd rather see the Wild draft for offense early and go after defense later

I'd really like to see the Wild land Okposo.

I'd want Okposo or Mueller. A big playmaking center that plays responsable or a big powerforward that is also good in his own zone. Would fit our style to a T

So, with the 17th pick, who would you chose?

Personally, i like Alexander Vasyunov.

vasyunov isn't he known for his offense, but no D whatsoever...

quite frankly we have enough guys who need work on their D coming in ( osullivan, pouliot, voloshenko) and bouchard, and gaborik aren't exactly D stallwarts.

I'd like to see them get a forward at 9 and D man at 17. Although wild have skill players coming in * see above* they could use a gritty player like okposo at 9 who will fight in the corners and go to the net.

Also at 17 maybe Chris Stewart, tough kid, powerforward type.

A little toughness to go along with the skill would be nice.

we need another true center, someone like koivu...pmb, sully, pouliot are all listed as centers, but they are better off on the wing- I think Peter Mueller would be a perfect fit. I dont really know about Brassard's defensive awareness, or Bryan Little...but we need a pivot for all these talented wingers.

although I guess veteran centers can be acquired via trades and FA...

Defensively we need someone who can contribute offensively as well as being solid in his own end...Perhaps we take a project in David Fischer, or reach on a Brian Strait or Jamie McBain...or perhaps take a Sanguinetti or Vishnevsky or Mathieu Carle and teach them to work on their own end.

Hell I dont know.

We need to reach an accord. If the Oilers KO Detroit in Round 1, then all talk of the #17 pick ends. If we must talk about our second selection, we must refer to it as the #30.

Otherwise we're setting ourselves up for a big time jinx. Just trying to nip this thing in the bud.

well

I say we gotta go forward/d combo in the first.

I'm cool with either Forney, Fischer, or Matt Corrente

OIlers might be in the finals does this mean the pick is as low as #28?

It's pretty hard not to root for the Oilers; you gotta love what Roloson has done for them. I could cheer for Buffalo over them, but I'd choose the Oil over the Ducks or the Canes anyday, 30th pick or not.
