Koivu thinks the Canes are advantaged cause they could rest some players in the last stretch while Habs were fighting for a playoffs spot...

Reporter: Do you think the canes are advantaged because they didn't fight like dogs to get into a playoff spot
Saku: Well they have been able to better train and rest some players, while we had to fight for our playoff position.

Notice that in this quote he never says if this is a disadvantage or an advantage. Plus Saku probably added that they had the advantage of having played under pressure a lot this season and being used to it, but the journalist probably cut him off at this point.

..this doesn't mean anything -- players always make it out like the other team is the favorite regardless whether they are or not. Would you expect Saku to say that the Habs have the advantage ???

I agree those comments look like he is drained off energy...like he is already tired to be in the play-off...anyway we will see this saturday and the days after!

Would you rather have him runnin' around guaranteeing wins left-right-and-center?

Most athletes don't even spend a second thinking about what they're going to say to the media. The just spit out the same old cliches or anything that won't stir up trouble for themselves.

It's unfortunate that Koivu isn't reassuring us that Montreal will win, and that Carolina isn't coming into this series with an advantage.

Perhaps we should petition for a new captain.

First of all, even if he did say that, and he didn't, there is nothing wrong with him saying it.

Secondly, I think people need to learn to discern a fact from an opinion. Koivu stated that because Carolina has had a playoff spot locked up for a while, they got to rest down the stretch and not play tooth and nail hockey. Fact. Nothing else was said. The author of the article indicates he believes that Koivu meant that Carolina has an advantage, but Koivu never said as much.

There is only one reason someone makes a thread like this

It means nothing. Stop trying to stir the pot.

That's just a reporter leading him on with the way he was asking questions. Saku fell for it.

Whats wrong with what he said? He thinks that Carolina has ONE advantage, but he never said they will win the series. Also, he never said anything that would be considered doubtful about the Habs themselves.

There's nothing wrong with what he said; there's a lot wrong with *some* of our posters jumping to conclusions like a bunch of rabbits on speed.

Sometimes I can't tell if some of you guys are serious.

I would never want to play in Montreal. Hopefully for his sake, Crosby never does.

It wasnt a Koivu bash thread.. I like Koivu alot, just that I found he lacked energy this year and Im worried by his last words... We need a hot Koivu in hope to make a long run, I just hope he isnt too physically and mentally tired...

You are reacting like I was saying Koivu is crap and not a good captain...

With all due respect, the way you're presenting your idea appears to be in a manner to belittle Koivu. You shouldnt be surprised to get reactions like these

Why don't you go away and leave this board to Hab fans? ...Your team is on the gold course... remember?

The game is played on the ice, not in interviews. I wouldn`t give a thing about what players or anyone says in an interview. It is always about posturing or being overly modest. So nothing new.

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with what he said, it's not as if the captain of this team asked for some time off after the Olympic whining to the media that he was tired and that Finland > Canadiens...

Oh wait a sec, he did say that.

Two days from Game 1 and people are starting to question our captain

When hasn't this guy put it all on the line for his team in the playoffs? I am seriously beginning to get tired with some of you. It seems like some of you hate on the Habs more then cheer for them.
