Blue Jackets Sign RW Derek Dorsett to 2 Year Contract Extension
Is this the end of Jared Boll in Columbus?
Quote:
COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed right wing Derek Dorsett to a two-year contract extension which begins in 2010-11 and continues through the 2011-12 season, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.
I wouldn't be concerned. Certainly his contract is going to be a bit more complicated and he also has a bit more negotiating power than Dorsett or Brassard.
Not a Blue Jackets fan (I mean, I don't wish them any ill will, or anything, in fact I was rooting for them to get into the playoffs and upset Detroit, they're just not a team I follow avidly), but I am a fan of Dorsett. There was one playoff game against Detroit when I felt like Dorsett was the best guy on the ice: fast, aggressive and drives to the nut like crazy.
I can't wait to see how it shakes out with Dorsett, Boll, and Murray on a line. I swear I remember seeing this a few times last year and it was so much energy and physicality. Exciting to watch.
I am not sure why people are extrapolating that this is the end of Boll. We have room for both of them on our team. Imagine how nasty Torres-Dorsett-Boll would be? People would HATE us...and I would LOVE it
IIRC, while Hitch did mention Boll was in an obvious slump, he has always had very high praise for Jared. I remember it being more so than I personally thought Boll deserved at the point in time in which the comment was made.
As mentioned above, I'd be very surprised in we didn't make room for consistent shifts with both of them.
Congrats to Dorsett. He adds a dynamic to the lineup that every team wishes they had.

I agree. I don't see this as the end of Boll at all. Dorsett has more skill and is more of an agitator/pest, while Boll is more of a middleweight heavyweight guy whose only there to hit and fight. DD earned this contract with his playoffs last year. Glad to see he will be a part of this team for the next few years.
