I'm not really following the form of the thread, but a somewhat off topic fact about me - I had the same surgery as Brassard back on September 11th. I just got cleared to play hockey again on January 7th (a hair shy of 4 months), and I play my first game on Tuesday. I think Gonchar had his surgery a couple weeks after me so I'm curious to see when he comes back.

It's quite the process to get your mobility and strength back, but it is possible. My surgeon was amazed at the progress I made on my last visit. This has been a recurring injury that was with me for a long time. My shoulder now feels better than it has for almost 10 years. It feels 100% as good as my "good" shoulder.

Not a huge point to this post other than to provide some optimism that Brassard should be back to 100% by next year.

Same here. Their Metropolis tour was the most awesome thing I've ever seen. A whole album in one go... Amazing stuff. I'm still going to every gig they play in Finland or Sweden though, but I agree that the newest albums haven't been the same than earlier ones, but that is perfectly understandable.

Arr. I never actually managed to make one of the Metropolis shows; by the time an even more obsessed friend of mine introduced me, they were just about done.

6DOIT was a favorite of mine, but it's gone downhill since.

We definitely should get together, drink few beers, listen to DT's old albums and tell stories how good they were earlier

Thanks Double_shift and Handyy. My love for DT comes and goes like the tides. Sometimes it's what I listed to the majority of the time and then they fade into the background.

I haven't the slightest idea who Dream Theater is; but I'll be in Norway, briefly, this summer and, if you're in the neighborhood (I realize that's a big neighborhood, Handyy!), I'd be delighted to buy you a few beers. Seems there are a few Norwegians around here, aren't there? OKT fans? Give me a shout, please. I'll be on a coastal cruise, visiting four towns, and would love to meet a few Jackets fans in the area!

Truth is, it's probably my midlife onset ADD that's pushed DT to the background. (Whoops - I notice you're in the 40-plus club as well!) I'm actually now more likely to listen now that I have an iPod and I can cherry-pick tunes.

And in closing, in case you've never seen this (one of several of these):

Would be fun to visit Norway, as I've never managed to get myself there. Unfortunately I don't have any vacation this year, as I'm saving all the days for around the world trip in 2010. If you decide to sail all the way to Finland, I'll meet ya someplace

I'll report back on Norway if you tell all about the '10 trip when you return! That's a dream of mine, but it's awfully expensive. Are you planning to sail or arrange your own itinerary?

By the way, DSL, was kind enough to hook me up with a couple of Dream Theater pieces that I quite enjoyed. I'm still way out of the loop, but I can almost see the outer fringes of it far off in the distance!

Dream Theater always struck me as chaotic & unstructured. As a drummer that tended to drive me nuts! Too many complicated parts competing for attention & detracting from the whole of a song. Not hatin', I'm just sayin' Oh yeah...welcome to the Noobs too!!!

Enh. It's about as "unstructured" as several classical pieces - the flow's a bit odd, but it can be followed, and it's fun to do so.

That said, I'm getting real tired of their recent descent into "how much more can we sound like Metallica today" mode - can't stand Metallica.

Are you going on one of those cruiseships, the Hurtigruten?

I hope you are prepared for the level of costs in Norway, specially alcohol. What places do you plan to visit? I wouldn't mind meeting you, then we can continue our OKT-discussion

I'd be delighted to meet you, Wolf, I'll buy and you can choose the topic for argu... I mean, discussion! I'll be on the Queen Mary 2 and our ports are:

Stavanger, Flaam, Hellesylt/Geiranger, and Bergen (from June 8 - June 11)

I've never been to Scandinavia and I'm really excited about the trip. From there, we head back to Southampton and on to NYC. As for costs, everyplace is high these days! I'll try to save my drinking money for buying rounds with hockey fans in Norway!
