Last team who lost in the SCF vs the team before that from (who just lost their starting goalie to "lower body injury" for an undetermined amount of time; and the dressed back up doesn't have any NHL experience).
Diving in the NHL is getting out of hand, in my opinion. Any time you see the Calgary Flames diving all over the ice, you know you've got problems. I counted a half dozen dives in the second and third period from the Flames alone. And that's ignoring quite a few from Anaheim. I noticed it in the SJ/NAS game. There are some big guys falling quite easily in every game. Sticks to the midsection shouldn't bring down guys that are 6'3" 220.
Unfortunately, the NHL has never been able to figure out how to police diving. It's clear that the officials cannot do it (or at least refuse to) because even in the most blatant of situations, it'll never be called. But with so many stick penalties being called combined with the lack of diving enforcement, the NHL is begging players to go down easy and often. And it makes sense to dive. If winning is the name of the game and teams of yesteryear had no problems with comitting illegal but then unpunished acts like clutching and grabbing, then I can't see them ever having issues against diving.
The biggest problem that stems from this is the amount of unnecessary penalties that are being generated. Common sense would tell you that if the refs called the penalties tight early on, that players would wise up and penalties would stop being committed at such a rate. The problem was the players did wise up. And now everyshift occurences like sticks rising to waist level or bumping into skates is causing penalties because the player being contacted falls to the ice.
Any idea on how the NHL fixes this?
Edit: Has anyone seen the Flames/Anaheim series? Dion Phaneuf is really struggling out there. Makes you appreciate what Weber is doing because it's incredibly difficult for a rookie 20 year old to play at that level.

Suprised about these series so far!
1) Dallas losing 2 home game to the Avs... Never thought that would be possible, they are really behind the 8 ball now
2) Edmonton getting a split, and really could have swept, it took the wings OT to get the split... but I really think Wings can take charge, they are a *great* road team, I still hate them lol
3)Ottawa splitting with Tampa, I thought the Lightning looked like they were limping into the playoffs but managed a split
4) Semi suprised about the Habs going up 2-0, but I did notice late in the year the Hurricanes weren't really playing great
Oh well lots more games to go but alot of upsets brewing
nothing compared to the montreal\carolina game. that was epic.
Yeah I only got to see the highlights of that game. The Dal/Col game just had such huge momentum swings that lasted for long periods of time. I guess the Mon/Car game was the same way though. It was neat to watch the teams come back and turn the game around. Probably not that great for the health of the fans though.
