After Umberger got slammed...

...Jeff Carter kicked it up into a gear not seen before. He is going to be one heckuva player.

It was awesome to see him drop the gloves almost right away to defend Umberger.

I've noticed the last couple of weeks with Carter, the guy throws his body around and is a pretty good two-way player IMO. I like what i see in this guy.

Thats what you like to see in your young players, Leadership. Is this a recent thing with him or has he done this all year.

Yea i noticed it too. He has really stepped it up in the defensive zone with his physical play in last few weeks.

I was surprised they went after him, I thought theyd do nothing. Its good to see Hitch hasnt totally castrated the team.

We saw that a few times last night. With Knuble and Gagne going after Griere I think it was after he hit Forsberg and with Carter going after Cambell. I was more impressed with all of the guys who stuck up for our players. I was also EXTREMELY suprised to see Carter drop the gloves.

I really enjoyed seeing that as well. Great sign when you see everyone standing up for each other.

Not to be funny or mean but he could have kept his head looking forward. Not saying he diserved it but he could have prevented it.

To be fair though, if Niko doesn't make a bad pass that puts Umberger in a vulnerable position, that hit doesn't happen the way it did. Niko needs to make better decisions in the future.

Hed only just touched the puck, there was nothing he could do. It was a hospital pass. It wasnt like Lindros skating up the middle in clean posssession of the puck.

CBC called it an unnecessary suicide pass... but yea, it was a stupid play. It's not like if Dimi made that pass then Umberger would be home free on a breakaway.

Watch for Gauthier to destroy a Sabre on Monday. This, in my mind will turn out to be the best first round match up we've seen in awhile.

Maybe we who regularly got to follow the "O" in Ontario were spoiled watching Carter and Richards ( Even Roy from Buffalo ) and knowing what these guys are capable of. I feel that as fans we were expecting too much too soon from the rookies ( see: Boston and Thorton in his early years)

Yes you could also argue this point of view. It was a suicide pass and there may not have been much Umberger could have done. I would have to see the video again.

Its allright... Its not like they have any playoff hockey to watch But seriously I asked for the video and after looking at it I think it was a pretty deadly pass from Dimi.

Yea , i agree with you... I meant it as like , i didnt see him doing anything to the other player to get hit like that.I dont know mabye i missed somthing. I know it was a supposed " clean hit" but it was pretty nasty. I still dont understand how he was walking around like nothing was wrong after the game. But I think the whole team just did plain awsome in overtime... it was amazing

He tried and failed miserably in game 1.......are you advocating he deliberately try to injure a Sabres player because Campbell cleanly hit and knocked the shee-it outta Umberger?

... Nice way to put it.... Im pretty sure he just meant that he will knock the "Shee-it" out of a player cleanly.

Niko owes RJ one steak dinner a night for the entire summer for that pass.
