23 cups, say sayeth TSN

Correct me if I am wrong but the Habs have won 24 cups, no?

B/c to me it looks like TSN just showed us more disrespect by printing a short preview today on their site, writing:

"Winners of a record 23 NHL championships, the Canadiens try to earn a second straight road victory against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals."

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=163711&hubname=

Is there something I am missing, was one of our cups not an "NHL Championship"?

sigh

mike

Maybe they awarded the one in 1993 to Pat Roy alone?

We won 24 cups just look at the top of the bell center u can see 24 banners...
Plus in 1918 or something we went to the finals against seattle and the final was canceled cuz of the spanish flu... so it could have been 25

http://www.canadiens.com/fre/history...istoryCups.cfm
Count them here 24...

I may be wrong on this (although i dont think so on this occassion) but the Stanley Cup was competed for before the NHL existed and the Montreal Canadiens existed before the NHL was created. I think one of the cups is from the time before the NHL. If im wrong, someone please correct me as I have believed this true for some time.

This is correct and accounts for the discrepancy.

Funny that TSN had it right and the Habs have won 23 NHL Championships, and that you were missing the fact that our 1916 win was a NHA Championship.

This whole TSN disrepect thing is starting to border on the idiotic.

I was going by OP's quote since they've fixed the article.

(THE heck) with TSN. They deserve all the criticism they get. They're a homer Toronto network. Everyone in Canada knows it and it's getting tiresome.

TSN is right. The Canadiens have won 24 Stanley Cups but only 23 NHL Championships. Their first cup was pre-NHL.

Has been won a record 24 times by the Montreal Canadiens and a record 11 times by Henri Richard of Montreal, so TSN is wrong, why doesn't it suprise me???
