Was that a "Bettman sucks" chant I just heard in Carolina?
Not that I don't completely agree, but it's funny how you hear that after the Canes take a penalty in overtime. I didn't hear any complaining when they were getting back into the game via a steady stream of power plays.
Everyone apparently wants to see "the old" nhl come back, and then they'll say that sucks. You cannot please every team, players need to adjust and they had a whole season to, though ****.
4 minors in OT is a disgrace. 3 of the 4 were questionable calls at best.
The only time a penalty should be called in OT during the Stanley cup playoffs is if it takes away a scoring chance or it is something so damn obvious that they HAVE to call it. Let the teams decides who win the game..not which team has a better PP.
If those are called in the regular season, they better be called in the playoffs.
Playoffs does NOT = the regular season. The playoffs is a whole type of different hockey, players take their games to another level. This is exactly what is wrong with Bettman and his philosophy in penalties.

Agreed. It cracks me up how people spent the last 3 years whining about "clutching and grabbing" (which became such a buzzword that it got confused with defense) but now that it's the playoffs it should be OK to go back to mugging skilled offensive players.

Tell me, is there a different rule book for the playoffs?
Intensity will always be there. Calling the game by the book will insure the best quality of hockey. Anything else would be a failure and a true disgrace for the league.
The officials have been doing a tremendous job so far. Great playoff games in all the series so far.

Not calling penalties in the playoffs with the same consistency that they are called in the regular season is basically asking players to go back to constant hooking, holding and interference on skilled players.

They are calling MORE though IMO in the playoffs then they were by mid season. Which is my complaint. The players are playing at higher tempos and are being more aggressive.
I guess I should have also said I do not mind any of the hooks, holds etc being called. What I am against is the physical penalties being called. You gotta let the players play aggressive, thats what the playoffs are all about.
So the past 20 year the playoffs have been a complete failure? Strange, seems like this year there is a huge amount of complaints.
The first 2 games of the playoffs have been better than any playoffs I have seen in years. Get the skill BACK in the game and the grabbing and crap out.

Different situations.
In the past 20 years, there wasn't a canceled season and wasn't a league mandate to call the game by the book from the preseason on to the playoffs. For the sake of credibility, the NHL has a lot on the line this year.
Again, I applaud what we are seeing so far. Excellent consistency, amazing hockey (that includes big hits and great goaltending), and more scoring.
