Downie

I was just wondering if anyone knew what was going on in the PEterborough series and how Downie was doing. I can't find the Prospect Update thread, I think I must have missed a message about its movement from the boards.

The Petes lead the series 3-1, including two OT wins.

I haven't seen much of this series, so I'm not sure what Downie's stats look like, but he's been all over the ice the little bit I've seen.

Up until last night, Downie had 13 points in 13 games. He was pointless last night, but Peterborough spent a LOT of time killing penalties. They won in OT and I expect them to wrap up the series in 5 on home ice.

How often are Junior games shown on TV?

During the regular season, they show at least one game a week.

Our local cable channel has been showing games since playoffs began.

They show the whole OHL playoffs, basically. You get the games for the team that's in your region, up until your team is eliminated, and then get the next-closest team after that... so for example, me in Toronto, I get all the Majors games in the playoffs, then all of Brampton after the Majors were eliminated, now all of the Barrie games... which includes the Petes series.

Of course, if you have the Rogers OHL pack, you get all the games from all the regions.

Since the NHL playoffs have started, however, there has been a lot of overlap with the Habs, so I only watch bits and pieces of the Colts-Petes. Generally speaking, Downie seems to be playing okay, although nothing like "nearly dominant" the way he was when he first arrived in Peterborough. I think he's getting more of a defensive role, and the Petes are really trying to roll over 3 balanced lines, so Downie's production isn't where it was, and he's not quite as noticeable as he was in the regular season. Plus there is an obvious attempt afoot to try to get him to keep his emotions in check (which isn't always working), but I think he actually plays better (or at least more productively) when he's balanced on the edge of crazy.

Looks like it's going to be London-Petes in the OHL finals, which should be a great series for Downie to go crazy in, though. He's got plenty of history there with Hunter's team, and it figures to be a nastier and more intense series than the Colts by far.

If you want to check out the next Petes game, head to www.ontariohockeyleague.com and find the link on the left side "livestream". Games are 7 bucks Canadian a piece. The schedule is also located there, I think the next Petes game is tomorrow or Saturday, not sure because I haven't looked.
