Damn...we're already over-stocked on D. Oh well, hope he had a nice time in Pittsburgh. He must be thrilled to be coming back to a contender.

Except now he'll be going from playing in the NHL with Pittsburgh to playing in the AHL with the Moose. Oh well, I guess that's better than playing for the Penguins farm team where he would've gone if he had cleared waivers...

Anyway, good depth pick-up for the Moose who are in desperate need of an experienced d-man.

Good news for the Pens...

Baumgartner was atrocious in Pittsburgh. I hate the +/- stat but regardless...-7 in 5 games...

this says something about Baumer...

a team that lacks some serious depth and he gets waived!

Baumer should be looking for a home in Winnipeg, cause that's where he'll be for a while!

oh well... good to have our #10 guy back

don't see what Baumer has to do with Sopel... Baumer won't get called up unless half our defense is injured!

Slegr is playing well and that could point to Sopel possibly being moved... but injuries have yet to really hit... I'd rather hold on to Sopel for a while - at least until the deadline... besides by then the market for him might be bigger too than it probably is now.

If we move Sopel for a forward or goaltender that leaves our #7 defenceman as Jaroslav Obsut, which I'm certainly not comfortable with.

Mind you I'm not too thrilled with the idea of Nolan Baumgartner there but it makes sense as a depth move.

I'm just gossipmongering Watch this be speculated on SportsTalk tonight

I wouldn't place much value on the +/- stats on a team that only has 2 players in the "+", and pittsburg only has one D-man with more than 1 point!

so?

To be -7 in 5 games on any team is atrocious.

His play equals his - rating.

Please be serious! Pittsburg has two + players....one is a rookie (Koltsov +1) and the other is Berehowsky (+4). Just so I'm clear, you want them to put Lemieux, Fata and Buchberger on waivers as well. Pittsburg is just a bad team holding their breath until after the CBA. Baumgartner is (was) just another of their many fringe players. He could be the eighth defenceman on many teams in the NHL and in the top two on most AHL teams.

he's a minor league defensemen. there's no way in hell he should have been playing 5 games with your big club. i don't know what you expected putting a #3-4 AHL defensmeen in your lineup

Baumer will be sticking with the Canucks for now, while Obsut was sent back down to the Moose.

Obsut sent down

I'm always happy with bringing in veterans for the Moose. Establishing a winning environment with our young players (such as Koltsov, Fedorov, Ried, Smith) will only help them once they get to the winning big club. Teach them how to win down there, and that makes one fewer thing they have to learn when they get here. I like the Pronger and Baumer moves and would support other similar moves.
