Bob Mac just said that Gainey confirmed there was a cut above the eye and a cut on the eye itself.
For the guy to get up, and have the awareness to get to the bench after that kind of injury speaks volumes about the guy.
I still remember the Donald Audette injury, and will never get it out of my mind. Thankfully, they attended to him in time to save his arm and life, and I'm hopeful that the immediate attention to Koivu will help him get through this.

For sure.
They showed a closeup of his face as he was skating over to the official, and there was blood coming out of the closed eye. It made me queasy.

The Gainey interview was broadcasted on CKAC and I didn't hear that.
But, as Tricolore#20 previously mentioned, even if the eye hasn't been cut itself, that doesn't mean it's safe. If the hit was hard enough, the shake could have made damage. Hence the exams and the wait. 'Cos I think the symptoma don't appear straight away in this case.
We'll know for sure tomorrow, as painful as it is to wait...
Man, I'm just back from the game and reading this forum...
First off, best wishes to Saku! I'm hoping for you there is nothing serious. Please get well!
Second, these refs were a joke. I'm certain Williams didn't do it on purpose but this was an automatic 4 min call. Then they give them the game on the type of call they were letting go all game? **** you NHL! I hope the NHL sanctions these moronic refs and appologize to Saku.
I don't blame Williams for anything other not taking care of his stick, and I don't anyone to injure him in the next game, but I sure hope the guys will make him feel his bones crunching.
Williams didnt do it on purpose but that was a HEAVY highstick.
While I certainly don't want to single you out, if anyone wants to turn this into a "criticize Justin Williams thread," please don't do it. This injury is bigger than any of that petty stuff, and shouldn't be lessened in any way. Like I've repeated, just pray for Koivu's sake, and leave that stuff for elsewhere, at another time.

It was accidental. It probably would never have happened with a old wooden stick, but it still was accidental.

This is not a critizing post at all. It was a heavy highstick. Nothing directed at Williams at all there.
