In a 4th line role Kosty would not be very useful, Lapierre fits that bill a lot more and that is why it makes sense.

But bonk doesn't fill a 1st line roll as well as Kost does....whatever, we'll see what happens tonight.

I don't find this news surprising. I compare his presence to Claude Lemieux in 85'-'86.... altought Lemieux had played at that time 10 regular season games with the Habs during the season.

Horrible, Kost should of played instead of Bulis on the 2nd line and Bulis should of centered the first line.

Now we have Bonk with 1st line duties and he won't be able to get it done.

Don't count him out just yet.

I'm expecting the worst from him, but hope for the best. That way I can't really be let down...Hopefully it'll be the 2nd line as far as icetime goes.

That's in your opinion, anyway... mine is the same as the Habs brass - I'd rather see Bonk center the first line, Lapierre on the fourth line, and Bulis right where he is.

Of course, I'd even be happier with Begin back in the lineup!

I would have liked:

Bulis center on the 1st
Perez lw on the 2nd since he's playing well and works hard on the forecheck (even thought i think HF overrated him at 8.5B...)

Bonk really is the only player on our team who has played on the 1st line of a NHL team so he fits the bill, have a little faith.

Bonk mught take Saku's place on his line but it won't be the 1st line anymore. The Ribeiro line will play more and will play the 1st PP.

And Higgins will center Zednik and Ryder on the other PP.

The Ribs line and the Pleks line both have more equal strength TOI than the Koivu line...

Lapierre is better suited for 4th line duty then Kosty, so good move.

Except the team doesn't want to shuffle too many lines, and Bulis is historically very poor on faceoffs.

Which is why putting Bulis at center makes little sense. He's found a role that he's finally useful in (using his speed alongside Kovalev/Ribeiro). No reason to change that.

Agree, it would be a waste to send Kosty out with handcuffs and not allow him to play creatively with creative wingers.

Lapierre should be an absolute burr in the side of the Canes, something we need with Begin out. Hopefully both Begin and Koivu come back quickly, especially Koivu.

Exactly.

I wouldn't be surprised the see Pleks line play the most even strength.

Bonk - PK and ES
Zednik - PP and ES
Murray - PK and some ES.
Lapierre - probably play the least amount of minutes (around 8 i would guess).
Sunny - PK and some ES
Ryder - PP and ES
Higgins - PP, ES and some PK
Pleks - ES and PK
Ribs line - PP and ES
Perez - ES

That's how I see the shifts going down tonight.

Interesting call by BG. Still accessing if I like inserting Maxim over Kost.

I have no issue moving Bonk between Ryder and Higgins. First, Bonk has played well and has earned it. Second, it changes the line..not a scoring line or #1 line now. However, I expect solid 2-way play and hopefully, this line will be able to apply pressure in the Carolina end using Higgins and Ryder speed on the forecheck as well as the entire line cycling down low. I think it has potential to be effective.

I understand BG's thinking with Lapierre. Gritty player, defensive centre. Better suited, at the moment, then Kost for the playoffs. BG is thinking, if I have to insert a rookie, I want the one who won't cost us in our own end.

Perhaps. But before Koivu went down Bonk was the more effective center of the two. He's done more to control the play in the offensive zone than we expected. I expect him to see a lot of ice tonight and I expect him to rise to the occasion.
