"Cheese"steak

We were having a debate as to what kind of cheese, if any, goes on a traditional Cheesesteak. And what exactly goes into the sandwich besides the steak? We have several places here that all claim to have an "Original" cheesesteak but they're all different.

Whiz is lame. That's what tourists get. Provolone is the way to go.

I'll typically cook the steak, then toss 3 slices of american white cheese on, let it melt and get nice and gooey, mix it up a bit more, then scrape it off onto the roll. Yummy.

Are you joking? The best cheesesteak you can get in Canada is from McDonalds? I feel bad for you!

Yeah, I was kidding but McDonalds does have one and no other "chain" store has one so I don't know what to compare it to.

Provo with / Whiz With is the backup

Im from New York, But when in Rome do as the Romans do.

And i go Pats, Jims, Genos in my order.

Love those cheesesteaks, Like NY Pizza/Bagels, only Philly can nail the cheesesteak.

Has anyone noticed (at Pat's and Geno's anyway) that when you say, "whiz wit" that the money dude says to the grill guy, "one cheese wit". So now I just say "cheese wit" and I'm given whiz, not american, not provolone. By this rationale, cheese=whiz as the Philly standard.
