Kapanen to play more defense?

Quote:
Flyers winger Sami Kapanen played defence in Game 2 after Denis Gauthier was ejected. Coach Ken Hitchcock said Kapanen might play more defence if it would help the team. - Philadelphia Inquirer

I think should something happen to one of the top 6 guys, Kapanen would step in.

A player like Kapanen is very valuable being that he is able to switch positions in a pinch, and is like having 2 players for 1 roster spot. I wonder if Hitchcock is has something up his sleeve?

the only problem with Kapanen back on D is when there are big forwards out against him... he plays them fine, but it just wears on him quickly.

I think they do it in game situations where they're looking to score while Pitkanen is off the ice or if someone gets hurt. With the Sabres puck movement and speed, I'm sure Hitchock doesn't want to end up having to play another rookie if he's confident with Kapanen

Put Kapanen with someone like Hatcher and I could see Kaps really becoming an effective player on the back end. I don't think bigger players will be a problem if he's playing back there because he is so fast, not to mention the Sabres as a team aren't that imposing either. Kaps would be great back there for the series.

Especially against Buffalo who don't have a very ferocious forecheck.

The only reason I'd like to see Kappy on D is his lack of finish around the net right now. He's providing next to no use on offense. Putting a little more speed on D would definitely help against the Sabres.

buffalo isnt toronto. we need speed bak there cause Rico is not cutting it in that area. And Rathje and Hatcher are the normally slow guys. Ithink you need meyer joni and kapanen to balance each pairing out. With benching Rico...

Kapanen is a superman, i mean when Olympics where closing up his father was interviewed and asked if Sami would still join the team and he said that it's amazing they've been still wondering that cause his shoulder is totally busted, his knees are failing and biceps is almost cut in half. This guy is a wreck.
