Shea Weber

Loved this guy in the WJC's last year and I'm just curious as to how he's adapted to the NHL. Living out east, I never get to see the Preds play, so any info on him would be much appreciated. Thanks

I found it interesting that Trotz said, unequivocally that "He is one of our top six defensemen. when refering to Shea Weber.

http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/in...&news_id=49286

I happen to agree with that statement, but:

Does this imply that Weber has become our 6th defenseman, even counting Zids......if so, who did he move in front of if Zids comes back, Eaton?

Does it imply that Trotz doesn't envision Zids returning this year?

Thoughts?

I think I'm fine with Zidlicky being out of the playoffs. We have missed him for quite awhile as it is...and while he is the best offensive defensemen that we have....we need defensive guys for this first series. Besides, I think Weber is a better option right now, and if I had to pick a guy to sit...it would probably be Eaton. I'm just not sure we can deal with Zidlicky turnovers/penalties against the deadly Sharks offense...then again, Zidlicky is a tournament/big game player. I would like to see him get a chance..

Ryan Suter will be the odd man out come Game 1. There's no way Mark Eaton won't be in the line-up. We need his experience and consistency against San Jose.

Anyhoo...

You really don't relent when you get these crushes on players, do you?

I remember when it was Jeremy Stevenson...

If you look at the first 28 games of Shea Weber and Our Lord and Savior ,

OL&S: 5G 9A +1
SW: 2G 8A +8

I know it's blasphemy to compare anyone to the Christ Child, and in all seriousness I doubt that Shea would have had the same overall impact and/or scored 20 goals....but, with the way Weber is improving with each game and getting more comfortable, I don't think the gap will be very wide once they are both established veterans.

Is this crazy talk with blue and gold tinted glasses to think that Weber could be on a similar level with Phaneuf?

I like to think its crazy to expect Dion will wind up on Shea's level once both are established but that's just me.....

Weber doesn't play in a Canadian market so he won't get the coverage. I have been saying for years that he is better than Suter and that he will be on Phaneuf's level. The Bruins board freaked last year when I said that he would be at least as good as Adam Foote (prime)... I don't back down from that one bit.

Weber makes alot more mistakes than Phaneuf, but both are future defenseman stars... no doubt 100%...

about Foote and his prime... don't discount him... he was Columbus's only true defenseman this season... he had his work cut out for him... and he still is one of the top defensive defensemen in the game.

Weber doesn't make a lot of mistakes period.

For some reason, it seems to me that Dan Hamhuis makes more mistakes than Shea Weber.

As for my "crushes", I liked Jeremy Stevenson, but I knew we didn't have room on the team for him. He's decent, but we did have better players. And I've boosted Mark Eaton ever since I first saw him playing with the team. Consistent and dependable.

This year, Adam Hall is, IMO, "Mr. Under-rated". Give him a job, any job, and he does it competently. And on the penalty kill, he and Greg Johnson are dangerous.

Anyhoo...

personally i think very highly of weber
i think he will be battling with phaneuf for norris titles for years to come
i wonder if he had a shot at the calder (next year)if he had played less than 25 games this year

Weber's climb up the Preds ladder this year has been pretty amazing. Going from an AHL team to a big-time contributor in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

You know I'm a flames fan, but also a canada WJH fan, Believe me when i say this, shea weber does not make as many mistakes as dion phaneuf.

Weber has/was been twice the player of phaneuf in the playoffs. I do think Phaneuf is more valuable/better, but to say that weber makes more mistakes its quite wrong. Weber is textbook.
