Seems pretty likely an incredible career just ended in Edmonton.

Congrats to Steve Yzerman ... what an amazing career for a truly classy guy.

The third time I've said it now.

Steve Yzerman is my all-time favourite player. I will be very sad if this is it for him. I doubt there will be anyone ever like him and I'm glad for that.

Thanks for everything Steve.

He is the definition of a warrior. A truly wonderful performer. Whether this season is his last or not, I am glad he returned so that our lasting memory wasn't that ugly injury in 2004.

Best Wings forward this series, awsome pass to Lang and a post hit tonight. Playing with a bad back too, the guy makes the Wings run. Just too bad the team fell apart.

At least he went down with the ship, not with an injury.

Post-series report is that he was playing with torn rib muscles and STILL was arguably the most dangerous forward besides Zetterberg.

Even though we lost to the Red Wings in 97, how can you not like Steve Yzerman

He is a true sportsman and full of loyality. U RARELY see a player begin and end his career without trading places. I cursed him so bad in 97, but I have a great deal of respect for how he played the game.

It'd be even worse to see him play another year going at what, 1/3rd speed...
I think physically he's gotta be done...
It's not so bad a way to go out, sure Detroit lost to Edmonton in the playoffs but it's not his fault... I think he's a little past being able to carry a team...

If you watched him after the Olympics and especially last night, he's still more than capable of carrying that team. If he gets healthy this summer, he's not done. I'm worried that he'll make the decision too soon based on his immediate health concerns (rib muscles).
