How much should we offer Huet this summer ?

A lot of people wanted to see how Huet will perform in the playoffs before giving him a new contract. Now that the season is over, what do you think would be reasonable and what he will actually get ? As an UFA, don't forget other teams will try to land him also.

Yeah, about that.

Reference should be Kiprusoff, who got I think 3.5M for coming in Calgary mid-'04 season and taking his team to the SC final.

To me it would be something like 4.0M win the cup, 3.5M lose in SC, 3.0M lose in round 3, 2.5M lose in round 2, 2.0M lose in round 1, 1.5M if he didn't make the playoffs.

Huet has amazing numbers but he only has 1/2 season as a #1 under his belt.

Of course, add or reduce $$ depending on the contract length.

2.0M/year for 2 years is my guess. Also possible 2.5M/year for 3 years.

Yeah, and colorado stuck with theo and won... regardless.

Are you implying we should have put Aebischit?

Or that they should have put budaj?

Or that Carolina should have stuck with Gerber? (I'll second that one)

I would offer 2 million per year for 3 years. Anymore than that I would let him walk and go with Abs and Danis next year

True, but why would Gainey want to hardball Huet after all he's done...not expecting a 4 million dollar contract but something like 1.5-2 million seems fair, especially when you take into consideration the fact that both Aebischer and Huet combined make twice as less as Theo does this year. If say both our goalies eat up 4-4.5 million dollars in salary and play like they did this year, then we would certainly be getting a bargain.

I agree that some of the numbers thrown around in this thread look a little high. Something in the $1-1.5M range per season would seem adequate, IMO. If Huet wants that to be on a very short term, even just 1 year, to give himself a chance to prove his staying power over a full season, then that's fine. But I don't see the need to offer more. We just went through that whole mess with Theodore, didn't we? You think Gainey didn't learn something?

I guess it all depends on his agent and if the salary request is affordable or simply blown out of proportion
