Do you want Jovo? No habs D can pass the puck other than Markov. I think Jovo could help our team a hole lot. Would you sign him at around 4 M for 3 years?
I generally like those high-risk all-out type of D. But realistically, Jovo will be a $5M+ player, and I don't think he'd be the best use of those funds for us. We can get better bang for the buck with lesser players.
To me it's obvious we need a lot more to spend on a goal scorer or a big foward who can do damage big time, a lot more then we need a D. Our defense when healthy is pretty good, and we got a couple of rookies coming along, I have no idea why people insists on improving the defense so much when we've had difficulty to score more then 2 goals all season long
If the Habs miss out on the tier 1 guys that may be available (i.e. Redden, Chara & Lidstrom) which I think they will, they should be looking at tier 2 players like Jovo Cop or McCabe etc..

The only thing that would put me off acquiring Jovanovski is his injury problems, which ironically may keep his asking price in the reasonable gamble range.

I don't want McCabe. I saw a lot of Leaf games being in Hamilton, and i even have McCabe on my fantasy team.
He is a good fantasy defenceman (pts and PIMs) but a bad real life dman. All he has is a point shot. Kaberle is much better in his own zone and is the guy who makes the Laffs PP run IMO. If it wasn't for all those passes right on McCabes tape for the one timers from Kaberle then McCabe wouldn't get the points. With the new rules McCabes defensive game is shot all to hell. He doesn't skate and pass near as well as Kaberle. Laffs made the right move in the dman they locked up long term.

I see a lot of Leaf games as well (living in Toronto) and I completely agree on Kaberle's passing being the primary catalyst for the Buds PP, unfortunately he's not available. I think Markov could be just as good a setup man and would compliment a guy with a decent shot, doesn't necessarily have to be McCabe (Truth be told I just threw out McCabe's name because it popped into my head). Making a move for a blue liner with a cannon would make the Habs a lot more dangerous on the PP.
