According to the roster posted on usahockey.com, both Meyer and Umberger are heading to Latvia for the WC.

Congrats

Meyer may be the single greatest move in Flyers history, given his intial expectations. He is fast, has an O game, is smart with the puck and isolate a guy and nuertalize him comming down the wing better than anyone else i have seen.

Good to see some more young American talent coming up. I was wondering what kind of talent would emerge to eventually replace the old guard. Hopefully they are successful. Go USA!!

Awesome news. I can't wait to see what Team USA looks like in ten years. We went through a dry spell as far as producing talent, but things look to be shaping up.

I was hoping Umberger would relax and recover, he still didn't look 100% after the hit.

Him not being right was a big reason why the line sucked.

No, but you can listen to the webcast of all of the games on www.usahockey.com.

I guess Esche was either not invited or didn't accept since he isn't on the roster. Given that Holmgren is the GM, I'm a little surprised.

i haven't seen the Roster, i assume Ricky D is the goalie going over?

no need to take a guy like Esche in that case...

Ricky D is not going. I believe he is having surgery soon. Otherwise he probably woulg have been the first goalie named.

Umberger was a scratch for the Norway game.

I listened to most of the game and it sounded like Meyer played an ok game at best. He had a couple of turnovers and didn't have much impact on the PP.

For some reason, I see Meyer as very similar to Andy Delmore.

Goal: The tandem of Craig Anderson (Chicago Blackhawks) and Jason Bacashihua (St. Louis) will be counted on heavily to keep the Americans in games. Both are backups in the NHL, so this is a promotion, to be sure, and a good opportunity for them to shine. Still, their lack of significant international experience could also mean the team's biggest weakness might well be between the pipes.

I see their play being very similar. Above average puck handling defensemen who are somewhat of a liability on the defensive end that also have a tendency to turn the puck over.

That said I do think that Meyer has a slightly higher upside than Delmore though.

Meyer can actually be physcial. Delmore can't. He only plays offense and he's soft as hell.

I don't have a link, but Umberger has been sent home because he developed concussion-like symptoms. They actually just said something on DNL.
