Oddity: Bouillon Invited To IIHF Worlds By Team USA

According to RDS, Francis Bouillon has declined an invitation to play for the USA in the IIHF World Championships.

Bouillon was born in New York, but was raised in Quebec and is about as Quebecois as the Habs and Celine Dion.

I find it funny that the Americans would ask for an expatriate to play for the national team.

Bouillon has an ankle injury so he can't go.

It says Bouillon is still having problem with his injured ankle.

BTW, they just want to have a good team on the ice. Who cares about the love for the country lmao!

If it was an invite from Canada, imo he would've gone.

i would have declined also.

What's the point of representing a country if it's not even your own. I wouldn't want to play for any national team other than my own.

I'd take pretty much any chance to play in an international tournament, thank you very much.

I'm just saying, if he had a chance to play for canada (which he doesn't) I think he would've gone with or without the ankle injury. I know I would've.

Actually you're right, I just caught it on RDS. That's pretty odd.

Haven't heard anything about an injury, can't see why he'd skip such a great opportunity... hmm.

the question now is:

If Québec seperates, all players that played for Canada but were Québecers will be able to switch and represent Québec, but will anyone who chose to represent other countries be able to switch also?

Wow... You can predict the future?

I'd really like to know who the habs are going to draft this year and when we're going to win our next stanley cup. Thanks.

No, just sick of the separation talk. IF it happens- which I obviously hope it doesn't, it's a long way off.

meh, i think it's a legit question. I'm not saying it's happening tomorrow, but there's an election coming in a year and a half, and then a referendum if a particular party is put into power.

I was just wondering about how it would work.

Someone mentioned Czech and Slovakia.. but what if a Slovakian had played for Italy in the past but then when the seperation happened he felt he wanted to play for Slovakia.. would he had been able to?
