Zednik: 'If I stay on the 3rd line, I have no reason to stay'

«Je préfère ne pas revenir sur la saison qui vient de se terminer et plutôt me concentrer sur la suite des événements, a t-il grommelé, hier. Mais si je continue d'être employé au sein du troisième trio, je n'ai pas de raison de rester ici.»

And on exactly how many teams do you expect to be a top-2 line winger Mr.Zednik? Unless making the playoffs isn't important to you...

You know I like guys like Zednik and Bulis but it seems like they believe things will just be given to them. Zednik didn't deserve to get top line minutes this year and if he's gonna whine about it then he can be replaced. I'm sure Kost can step right in and be just as effective as Zednik.

Too bad, him, perez and Plek were pretty good together actually.

This means Zednik is probably gone by the start of the season.

Here he is saying that he doesn't want to talk about last season, and that he pretty much demands to be on the top 2 lines.

Buddy, you were on the top 2 lines all freaking year, and the year's before that. You were given every freaking chance to excel. Every line combo was made... and still you have not stepped up and delivered. Only when the playoffs arrived did you raise your game and gave us...1 goal, and a fist pump.

If that is your attitude... I say... try to trade his ungrateful @ss and if there are no takers, let him sit and rot. Winning teams are not made of malcontents with 15 goals per year. Be part the team, or be part of another team.

I sure hope he is traded before or during the draft.

He doesnt play well he obviously cant pass and was really the weak link with perez and Plek. The only thing he can do is skate with one hand on is stick and loose the puck behind the net and while he is on his way he has 465900 good chances to pass the puck to his linemates but just keep on going forward.

He has alot of trouble getting the puck out of his zone.

Its time to get him out of Mtl for something in return and bring in some young guys.

What's with the habs and their malcontent Europeans this season...
lol

Zednik: "I want to be a top 6 player even though I scored 15 goals as one last year "
Bulis: "I want to be a top 6 player even though I have no offensive talent "
Aebisher: "I want to be a number 1 goale even if I let in an average of 4 goals a game "
Kovalev: "You don't love me. I do everything yet you don't love me "

I place so little value in any of these guys' comments. They just lost a heartbreaker of a series and for many of them, advancing in the playoffs would have redeemed the problems they had during the regular season. I would love if everyone had great attitudes and just took what was given to them, but honestly, professional athletes all have some form of arrogance, it is part of what gets them to excel. That's probably why we applaud guys like Koivu and others who do it the "right way" because they're just so freakin' rare.

Right now, our lines are pretty much in shambles anyway, so realistically anyone could get on the top 2 lines. The only forwards we have under contract for this year from the first two lines are Koivu and Kovalev, no? I think Perez, Ryder, Pleks, and Higgins are all RFA's and Ribs is probably gone. So there's a good chance Zed will be back on one of the first two lines anyway, depeding on the who we may bring in as an UFA.

I don't know what Zeddy is thinking. The guy played terrible this year, and didn't earn his icetime.

It will be sad to see him go, considering what he gave to this team in the past. But, it is time for both sides to move on.

Zednik was tried on the first and second lines before he was finally assigned to the third line. At one point he skated with Koivu and Kovalev, but that line didn't click. He prefers right wing, but he's not as good as Kovalev (and Kovalev also prefers right wing) and Ryder has already surpassed him as a goal scorer. If he wants to escape from the third line, I guess there's no future for him with the Habs.

The real irony is that Zednik's ATOI is identical to Ryder's and only 3:30 less than the ice time alloted to Kovalev.

Too bad, I liked Zednik pre 05-06. If the real Zednik is what we saw this year, good riddance.
