I picked Jovanovski. The addition of Jovanovski would solidify our defense, making the top 2 pairing dangerous offensively.

It's a close one between him and Pavel Kubina.

Hmm, this is a tough one.

Arnott's what most Montreal fans seem to crave, but they'd be disappointed (IMO) in his play. He's an inconsistent floater for the most part.

Kubina's decent. I expect TB to do everything to keep him there, though.

McKee's the recent flavour-of-the-month after his tremendous shot-blocking campaign down the stretch, especially against the Habs. He's very solid defensively. I think he'll be over-priced in the summer, given his play down the stretch/playoffs, and I can't see Buffalo letting him walk to a divisional rival.

Jovanovski should be overpriced. If not, I'd sort of like him. He's gotten a bad rap around HF and media in general, but the fact of the matter is he's a thick body, good skater, strong on the PP, and usually strong defensively. He'll have lapses, though. And you can't have inconsistent defensive players earning $4m+ in your salary structure.

Kuba's unspectacular and just not that good.

Zidlicky I like. Good skater, great shot, good on the PP, good hitter... but not all that special with inzone coverage. Not that he's a pure offensive defenseman, I just wouldn't bank on him being a top two in Montreal.

Downsides to all of them... I think given their relative (projected) price tags/demand on the open market, as well as what Montreal needs, I'd go for Zidlicky.

But it's too tough to say without knowing what their respective price tags are.

Of course, if all their price tags were the same, I'd take Jovanovski.

Jovo was my pick also. Unless of course we can get lucky and sign one of Chara or Redden. My choice then would be Arnott.

I agree with Mike8's roundup. I like Kubina myself. He's a beast down low, moves the puck very well, skates well and I still think he has upside offensively. He has a good shot. Plus, an upgrade to our defense would boost this team enormously. And he's still young and has tons of character. I like our defense with this guy as well:

Markov-Komisarek
Souray-Kubina
Rivet-Dandenault

Markov-Kubina
Rivet-Komisarek
Souray-Dandenault

whatever...

I'm not a big Jovo fan. He turns the puck over too much for my liking.

I'm not so impressed with the crop of fowards this year.

I'll take either kubina, jovo, or McKee.

But lets face it, Jovo is going to be the captain of the vancouver canucks at some point. He is their Saku koivu whether he has the C or not. They will find a way to sign him IMO.

Kubina would be great but again, I'm sure tampa is happy with him and they will do whatever it takes to keep him on board... the same applies with McKee.

I take Jay McKee in a second, but for some reason I don't think he would want to play with us

I see him re-signing in Buffalo, just a hunch.

I'd take Jovo too though.

I'm being serious though. If we have the resources, Elias would be a perfect fit on this club. We are weak on goal scoring and weak on the left side. Elias is pretty much a complete left winger.

I picked Arnott because he could be perfect with Kovalev and he's a big center and he's a righty, he also knows carbo and gainey pretty well.

Habs need more a big offensive centerman than a d-man. So, Arnott is the only option. For all you guys who are tired of Ribeiro, it makes sense, doesn't it ?

Then package Ribeiro, Zednik and Aebisher (and Perezhogin ?) to get a better 1st draft choice and a gritty third line winger to play with Bonk and Bégin.

Jason arnott for me, we need a upgrade at center and badly.

How good would a kositsyn-Arnott-kovalev line look?? Arnott is the type of center who takes alot of attention so would leave lots of open ice to kost. We got lots of young talented wingers on this club and we need quality centers fore them to be able to help us in the long run. Look at our youngster this year, every one who played with Koivu had suces at one point but you take koivu out of the equation and they all strugled from higgins to perezhogin. If were going the youth way ribeiro and bonk arent the answer to help develope are youngsters and get theire game to another level. Arnott would be a perfect fit because we would have two centers who would be able to take a youngster on theire wing and make them a better player. Thats the type of center im looking fore and arnotts has help out youngster in dallas

Whichever of those defenseman ends up being the best bargain, I guess. I would generally guess that guys like Jovo and Kubina will be too expensive. I'll guess further that even McKee will get more than he really deserves. So that said, I doubt any of these guys will end up being enough of a bargain to interest me.

And of course, Jason Arnott is not even remotely an option for me. We need more intense players, and he'll end up being signed to a contract that will make Radek Bonk's look like a steal. $5M for Radek Bonk pt. II??? No thanks. Waaaaayyy no thanks!

Jason arnott had over 30 goals this year. Even if he indid up with half of that amount next year I would take him in his 4mill dollar contract any day of the week. Arnott is no bonk when it comes to use of size, arnott will use his size to his advantage and will get into a physical game. Having that type of body would be a huge improuvement on any center we have. If youre content with bonks 5 misely goals thats youre problem. Arnott would solve are size issue up the midle. I dont how you would not like a center like arnott. Arnot is a save invisment and would be worth every penny. Arnot is a consistant 20+ goal scorer and has been true out all of his carreer. sometimes you got to take risk and arnott is a risk worth taken. Bonk has never consistant true out his carreer.
